Upcoming Orientation @ WCCCD...

Published

I'm sooo anxious to find out what schedule I'll end up with along with the campus that I'll be attending. I'm praying for Western campus because it's closest to me...second choice is Northwestern. I think I would have an anxiety attack if I had to drive to the Eastern campus.

I took CPR today at the Downriver campus and for the first time ever, I feel like I really learned the steps and I enjoyed it! I called my husband on the phone almost wishing that I would have an opportunity to perform it on someone. Weird, huh??

I have my physical and get my shots taken care of on Monday and Tuesday, so I'll have everything done. I'm sooo excited! Nervous still about nursing school...especially since I have to take Medical Math and Nutrition with the first semester, but I'll only be working two days a week, so I'll have time to study and complete my assignments.

Anybody else anxious?? :uhoh3: Is everyone done with the orientation requirements?? Please share...

Orientation Day One-complete. Yippie Skippie!!!!

How was orientation for the 1st day? Did yall meet Ms. Dolphus? "Don't come to clinicals rough rydin!, I don't want to see any wrong thongs, white means white, not dingy!" I had her for clinicals, you know we came correct.

Please let us know your class selections!

Orientation is all done. I am pretty happy with my class selection, I believe I was around the 30th person called. I also started talking to this girl who was sitting by me and we got into the same classes, so that should be good....study partner.

I am nervous. This should be a month to get ready and organized and relax, but I still have to get books, a uniform, supplies, etc.

Yes, btw, we met Ms. Dolphus, "No crack, front or back." :lol2: She seems nice, and I have her at NW for theory, so hopefully that goes well.

It is done!!! Although I may have been one of the last persons called I got my first and second choices, go figure. Now on to the next phase.

1st 7.5 weeks:

Nur 110-M/TH 4P-6P (Crawford-Harper Woods)

NUR 111-M/T 8A-2P (Stanley NW)

NUR 118 S 8A-12N (Lovett-NW)

2nd 7.5 weeks

NUR 112 M/TH 4P-6P (Stanley HW)

NUR 113 M/T 7A-1P (TBA-TBA)

Okay, I was one of the lucky ones and was about the 20th person called. I got the Western campus which was my first pick. My classes are as follows:

Mon-- NUR 111 8a-2p Diedo

NUR 110 3p-5p Diedo

Tues-- NUR 111 8a-2p Diedo

Weds--NUR 118 12a-4p Diedo

Thurs--NUR 110 3p-5p Diedo

The second week is:

Mon and Tues -- NUR 113 7am-1p " "

Mon and Thurs-- NUR 112 3-5 " "

As you can see, I have the same teacher for ALL of my nursing classes. Maddie seems nice, but I'll have to form my own opinion as time goes along. Plus, I still have to worry about medical math on Saturdays and nutrition online. My plate is going to be sooo full, but I'm working on my schedule and I'm sticking to it no matter what. I'm excited and can't wait until the first 7.5 weeks are over.

Orientation is done !!!....:yeah:

I did not get my 1st nor 2nd choice :sniff: but my 3rd choice I did get.

I believe I was the 30th something person called to select classes.

My schedule is: (Northwest campus)

Nur110 - MR 9-1 w/dolphus

Nur111 - MT 2-8 w/Kiani

Nur112 - MR 3-5 w/desouza

Nur113 - MT 7-1 w/TBA

Nur118 - S 8-12 w/williams

L. Dolpus seemed to be a stern person. I like her and she was my first choice had I gotten the NW campus. I've also heard that F. Williams is a good teacher. The best of luck to you! I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to fit work and study time in because I want to study no less than 20 hours a week. I refuse to lose!

Thank you, and the best of luck to you too!!

I'm wondering how did the sad face get in between "is" and "(northwest campus)" :uhoh21: in the above message. Even though it is my third choice I'm satisfied with my selection.

Good luck! I think we're all going to need it and a whole lot more! Ladies, here's to surviving the first 7.5 weeks:cheers:

We can do it!! :yeah:

I am taking this 7.5 weeks at a time and I not going to look at it as 2 years (that would be a tad overwhelming). I went to the bookstore yesterday and got most of my books, they didn't have two of them in stock.

I'm also going to take it 7.5 weeks at a time. Since I'm in class 5 days a week, I actually think that the time will fly by. Before we know it, we'll be ready for the next half of the semester. I'm going to work my behind off so that I don't fall behind. Something that I learned at orientation was it is okay to ask for help. I've never been to quick to ask questions...usually I just figure things out myself, but in this field not asking and assuming could potentially put someone's life in danger. So, I'm going to be using all of the resources that have been made available to us. I just hope that my lab partner wants this as much as I do so we won't have any issues when it comes time to put in extra practice time.

Hey Syncere,

Glad to see you are already realizing the importance of a good lab partner. You really do need someone who will be with you when you need them to practice with, who'l be there, who'll prepare for the practice sessions.

Having said that, don't feel you have to 'keep' one person the entire year. It would be helpful to find that magic person (I did) but I see lots of people practicing in groups, showing up and just joining another group, etc. If you aren't meshing with your partner, look around and see if you can join someone else. Don't be brought down because the girl you hooked up with 'has' to work every weekend and she has no sitter for the kids.

Start chatting up people right away and find a few that you feel you can hang with for awhile.

In all honesty, if you have to do nutrition and med-math, don't expect to have any extra time for extra lab practice. The busy work you'll have for nutrition class alone will make you feel overwhelmed.

Knowing what I know right now, I would never take nutrition and med-math along with the regular nursing classes the first semester. You will be overwhelmed and I know that if you plan working along with that schedule, that is a formula that spells disaster.
