Upcoming Orientation @ WCCCD...

Published

I'm sooo anxious to find out what schedule I'll end up with along with the campus that I'll be attending. I'm praying for Western campus because it's closest to me...second choice is Northwestern. I think I would have an anxiety attack if I had to drive to the Eastern campus.

I took CPR today at the Downriver campus and for the first time ever, I feel like I really learned the steps and I enjoyed it! I called my husband on the phone almost wishing that I would have an opportunity to perform it on someone. Weird, huh??

I have my physical and get my shots taken care of on Monday and Tuesday, so I'll have everything done. I'm sooo excited! Nervous still about nursing school...especially since I have to take Medical Math and Nutrition with the first semester, but I'll only be working two days a week, so I'll have time to study and complete my assignments.

Anybody else anxious?? :uhoh3: Is everyone done with the orientation requirements?? Please share...

In all honesty, if you have to do nutrition and med-math, don't expect to have any extra time for extra lab practice. The busy work you'll have for nutrition class alone will make you feel overwhelmed.

Knowing what I know right now, I would never take nutrition and med-math along with the regular nursing classes the first semester. You will be overwhelmed and I know that if you plan working along with that schedule, that is a formula that spells disaster.

I know that I could not do it but that's not to say that it could not be done. I took Nutrition as a easy class that I could take with AP II, ha!!, I spent more time with nutrition than I did APII. It is not that it is hard, it is so time consuming. Medical Math and Measurements is such an important class and it moves quickly. But for those who are in the situation where they must take DT 130 and HSC 100 with NUR classes it may be hard but not impossible. Stay positive.

I assume then that you are just taking the nursing classes?

What campus do you have?

I am taking the nursing classes and med math. I took nutrition, which does require a lot of paperwork, but is not difficult. It is only one day a week, so as long as you do not fall behind, I believe it is possible to handle it all. Just stay on top of it and keep a positive attitude. It is only 7 1/2 weeks and then your courseload will be considerably less hours, because med math is only half of a semester. Good luck Syncere.

I am happy about my schedule. It is at the NW campus, and I ended up with option 7, and my med math class is on Friday, which means that all of my classes will be squeezed into 3 days/wk. I think this is a good thing, because on these 3 days, I have a 3 hour break....I think that will be good study time.

Good luck to everyone!

Thank you, and the best of luck to you too!!

I'm wondering how did the sad face get in between "is" and "(northwest campus)" :uhoh21: in the above message. Even though it is my third choice I'm satisfied with my selection.

You used a colon : and a left parenthesis ( with no space inbetween, that's how you make a sad face :(.

[i just hope that my lab partner wants this as much as I do so we won't have any issues when it comes time to put in extra practice time.

Hey Syncere,

Glad to see you are already realizing the importance of a good lab partner. You really do need someone who will be with you when you need them to practice with, who'l be there, who'll prepare for the practice sessions.

Having said that, don't feel you have to 'keep' one person the entire year. It would be helpful to find that magic person (I did) but I see lots of people practicing in groups, showing up and just joining another group, etc. If you aren't meshing with your partner, look around and see if you can join someone else. Don't be brought down because the girl you hooked up with 'has' to work every weekend and she has no sitter for the kids.

Start chatting up people right away and find a few that you feel you can hang with for awhile.

Thanks girl for that advice! I assumed that once you picked a partner that you were stuck with them. I'll definitely take your advice to heed. The first day of class I'm getting there extra early so that I can peep out everyone and make my choices from there. Hopefully, the first one is a charm, but if it isn't I'll look for someone else. Take care!!

I have nutrition covered. I had Singleton online last semester and while I dropped her, I still have her syllabus with all of the assignments. I emailed her to ask if the assignments were the same and if I could start the assignments early. She said that was a great idea, so having said this I'm starting the class on Thursday so that I can have the first 3 weeks done with the exception of quizzes. I'm just going to stay a week ahead of the schedule throughout the semester so that I won't even have to worry about it. I know it's going to be no joke, but I have no kids and my family is supportive. I work at a group home, so lets just say that it's like home away from home. I can do this and I won't allow myself to think anything less. I enjoy a challenge and proving people wrong about what I can do! :-)
