UofT 2013

Is anyone else applying to the compressed nursing program at University of Toronto this year for entrance in September 2013? I want to start a thread so we can see when people get accepted and what their grades are like. Good luck to everyone!

Hi sm11,

I am applying to the Sept 2013 intake for the accelerated BSN at UT as well, thanks for starting this. Where are you from? I'm in Seattle, so the international student process is a bit daunting for me, as I'm nervous about whether all my classes will transfer over.. are you all finished with your app?

Hey!

I live near Toronto so it's pretty close for me if I get it. I'm still working on the application, trying to figure out which references to use. How are you doing with the application? I'm so nervous, I feel like there are going to be so many applicants this year! I think they give preference to those that have completed their undergraduate already and I'm still in my second year. What year are you in if you don't mind me asking?

I'm a post-bac candidate (I have a BA and MA already), so this is my third round at trying to sort out life and careers :) I am currently struggling with the personal statements because I feel like a 250 word limit is like being in a straitjacket.. so hard to summarize how badly I want to do this program and how I fit, in such a short space! I'm worried about whether my US credits for the pre-reqs will qualify.. I mean, they should, but without knowing for sure I'm incredibly nervous too.

Getting references is always stressful too.. I finally found mine, but am still waiting on one to complete it. I hate bugging people about that.. :/ Best of luck to you!

Wow having an MA will definitely work to your advantage! I definitely agree with the personal statement being too short. I always end up over thinking what to include in those type of things because you can't put in everything you really want to.

As I understand it, the references aren't letters that you submit, right? You provide the contact information and UofT will email them with questions, correct? I've never submitted references this way before. I understand that they don't want us to influence what they write but it feels unprofessional to not be able to give the list of questions ahead of time before asking someone for a reference. I don't want them to agree and then find that they need to fill out pages of information :p

Good luck to you as well!

Hi everyone!!

So happy to have found this! I had applied in the past and was rejected with a 3.0 average and a degree that was to be conferred at the end of the year. I decided that I really needed to improve my overall GPA, not just my last 5 FCEs, so I undertook a second degree to which I am scheduled to confer in April 2013. Nursing is still my goal, so I am going to reapply this year again. My GPA in my last 5 FCE is a 3.8/4.0 on the OMSAS scale, which is what I think they use. I have a Hon. BSc and hopefully a Hon. BA in April. I've done a variety of volunteer and extra-curriculars ranging from playing in a a musical ensemble, intramural sports, medical response and peer mentorship.

To answer one of your questions, your references will get contacted, via email, once your application has been submitted. I believe it's a short form in which they rank you on a variety of factors that are related to the field of Nursing to see whether you are a good fit for the program. As for the questions on pre-reqs, it's best to contact them. Also, if you have a syllabus or remember the topics, it is important to include that! I think this is especially important for the Human physio requirement if the course you have taken is not on their equivalency list. Any other questions, just feel free to ask and I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge :).

Good luck all and stay safe during this holiday season!

It sounds like you've been working really hard for a while to get into this program. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the answer, I don't want to bug people to be my references but if it's short then I don't feel too bad :p Do you also happen to know which marks they use specifically? I know it's the last 5 courses but are those full year courses? I just got my marks back this semester (the first semester of my second year) so would they use those marks plus the marks from the second semester of my first year or would they use all of the marks from my first year?

Hope your holidays were safe as well!

So you know....you can see the reference forms yourself so you know whats on them. When your on the reference section submit your email and the form will come to you and you can see whats on it, but obvioulsy dont fill it out and send it back. They told us that last year at the information session.

I applied last year and was rejected with a 3.53 in my last 30 credits (equivalent to 1 full year of studies in BC). I had to report a C+ on the pre-req form, and I also only had 2 years post secondary.

This year my GPA is 3.63 and I am in 3rd year at York for an Honours BA Psychology.

I have also just started a thread which includes U of T, Mac, and York if anyone has applied to multiple schools.

Good luck to everyone!

Is anyone having trouble getting an academic reference? I've emailed some profs but haven't received a reply and the deadline is looming. Any advice? Thanks!

I would just continue trying!

Regarding the supplemental application... does anyone know if it is best to focus on a few volunteer or leadership experiences, and elaborate on those, or include all of the volunteer that we have, and do more of a brief outline of each? It doesn't give us much space with a 250 word limit!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

So I've applied to UofT and York Second Entry program

my cumulative gpa 3.49 and last 5 credits 3.74

I've completed second year and into my third year right now; I'm really nervous because of applicants who have already completed their bachelors which I feel have more preference.

Now we sit and wait. Good Luck Everyone!!
