  1. Absolutely not true, im a first year at Uoft Nursing and of the 8 courses so far the entire program has taken, the lowest course average is 77% -everyone is either a b+ student or higher. The Faculty of Nursing at Uoft is its own body and the grading policies are different than that of other faculties- they are nowhere near as strict.
  2. Go where ever is cheaper for you, you'll be an RN either way and both UBC and Uoft are considered great schools so either way you'd win out. However, I' m currently in the UofT program (1st year) so if you have specific questions feel free.
  3. just a couple weeks ago on greys anatomy, dr.yang asked one of the nurses to get her something and the nurse responded "right away doctor!" and scurried away with her head down. iIreally wanted to send a tweet to Shonda Rhimes about that one lol
  4. If your at a point in your life where you can spend four yrs in school (no kids, mortgage etc.) then just go for the RN. Higher pay, you start at $30/hr,5-7$ more than an RPn and also the Rn designation opens many more doors for upward mobility. In terms of the job market, I hear its tough for new grads, but that's no different than any other field out there, also by the time you graduate the market might be different.
  5. I really dont think it matters, as long as you have your prereqs done. I did my undergrad in sociology, got c's in some of my pre reqs n got into uoft .
  6. So you know....you can see the reference forms yourself so you know whats on them. When your on the reference section submit your email and the form will come to you and you can see whats on it, but obvioulsy dont fill it out and send it back. They told us that last year at the information session.
  7. *reads over posts*.......thank God I live in Canada.
  8. Remember Bek, there is still almost two full months left for acceptances to be sent out.
  9. Thank you Lori!
  10. I did my 4yr undergrad at uoft st.george n live in brampton so my commute is about 1hr 30 min n honestly it really wasnt that bad n time goes by really quickly. The only issue I had with commuting is the cost. i got accepted to uoft nursing so i'll be doing it for another two yrs but i'm used to it. While york may only be one bus, i think you should also keep in mind that the uoft campus is literally right around the corner from several hospitals (sick kids, toronto general, mount sinai, princess margaret and toronto rehab), whereas york is really only in close proximity to one (sunnybrook), so either way a significant amount of travel will be involved. I just dont think you should base your decision on commute because they're pretty comparable in terms of travel times and cost. It'll all be worth it in the end.
  11. Hello all, just wondered if anyone could provide me some insight into nursing schedules. I did some searching online but was unable to find information specific to the GTA. I will be starting a nursing program in the fall and thus have very limited knowledge into what nursing schedules look like. I know that nurses primarily work 12hr shifts, so would it be 3 twelve hour shifts per week? and can you choose what days you want to work? I've also heard that emerge/trauma rn's work 4 days on, 5 days off is this true as well? And of course any other info is welcome. Thanks
  12. I was just admitted!!!
  13. So i guess the admissions Gods heard my cry- I was just accepted to Uoft's 2 year accelerated nursing program!! Some stats: Will be completing my four year undergrad degree in Sociology and Equity Studies from Uoft this week Gpa in the last five credits at time of application was 3.58, last year however my Gpa was 3.76 (my final grades for this semester have not yet come in) Volunteer experience: Toronto Rehab Unit Support Volunteer and OT Support volunteer for a year, volunteer at a student run sexual education centre on campus, and some miscallaneous stuff, including daily bread food bank, accessibility services and being in a student union Any more questions...feel free
  14. how far along were you in your degree and what were you studying? that probably had something to do with it.
  15. Thanks for the response Kayp. Another question...which may be a little odd to you, but if you dont mind sharing- how many courses did you have at the 400 level? and what did you study in particular. Pardon me if im prying too much and if you dont want to answer I completely get...im just trying to gather as much insight as possible.
