unsatisfied with ielts results

HI! I just received my test report form in ielts. Well, I'm not happy with the result, actually I feel so depressed. I got 6.5 in speaking test, but I need to have atleast 7 to qualify me to apply for a visa screen certificate in CGFNS/ICHP. The rest of my scores though are okay. This is my fourth time to take the test and I always get 6 or 6.5 in speaking test. I already enrolled in a review center and even speak to a native english speaker (american) regularly to improve my speaking skills but my scores did not improve. I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking maybe there are other english speaking countries out there beside U.S. which only require a minimum band score of 6.5 in speaking? Please help! I'm tired of retaking the test just to get atleast 7 spoken band.:bluecry1:

Chances of going from a 6.0 to a 7 are going to be almost impossible with rescoring, just is not going to happen.

I would spend the money on preparing to pass this exam with better scores. The necessary speaking section is the most important in my views, as that is how we communicate with each other. And so very important even more so in health care.

It can be done but you are going to have to work at it. Adn this is the very reason that the English exams are required for those from your country, the scores are not passing for all that write the exam.

Best of luck to you, I am sure that you can get thru the exam with the needed passing scores on this section.

thanks for the reply suzanne.. i've been thinking hard about having my scores rechecked this pass few days.. i guess ur right, a score of 6 to 7 is almost impossible (or not, if im really lucky), i think i should focus now on re-taking the test and practice more for speaking.. i hope i can pass my second try..

thanks again for the advice, it really help alot!=)

Hi friends

In my opinion i think if u try u can get 7 in speaking in IELTS but IBT the most difficult for me. I took both already and i guess IBT is easy but hard to get required score comparing to IELTS.

try again IELTS u can do it.

good luck.

We ask that you use proper English when posting here, it makes it easier for others to follow and since this thread is specific to passing of the English exams, it makes sense to follow the formats of what is required to pass either of those exams.

It is also a well known fact that most from the Philippines find the speaking part of the IELTS exam to be easier with the IELTS exam as you are tested in front of a human examiner and one to one. The iBT requires that you speak into a machine and many have issues with that.

Much has been written on this very same topic in the past on the Philippine Forum, you may wish to do a search there.

Best of luck to you on your exams.

That is so true. I am not sure how an RN I work with got here or with what visa but she has been here for 5 years and studied nursing in the US. I am not sure if you have to do language testing if you studied in an English speaking country. But her language skills are definitely a challenge and giving and taking report is painful at best and don't know how she communicates with patients. It takes so much extra effort to get through the process due to language issues and definitely from firsthand experience agree 100% with Suzanne of the importance of not being frustrated with your scores but dedicating time to study to improve the scores. Not only to obtain the VSC but also to the benefit of your future nursing colleagues, and more than that the patients...they will love you for it.

Hi IELTS guys and girls , How many weeks waiting time for the whole re-mark process ? I know 6 or 7 wks from official IELTS web site. I also heard the actual duration is shorter than that. Is that true ? Thanks!

Well it took me almost 8 weeks (53 days) to get the result of IELTS speaking test remark, so don't expect anything less than 7 weeks(i did IELTS from Cambridge)

2 or 3 weeks for my case if I'm not wrong.

6.5 to 7 in written.

Go for it.
