unsatisfied with ielts results

HI! I just received my test report form in ielts. Well, I'm not happy with the result, actually I feel so depressed. I got 6.5 in speaking test, but I need to have atleast 7 to qualify me to apply for a visa screen certificate in CGFNS/ICHP. The rest of my scores though are okay. This is my fourth time to take the test and I always get 6 or 6.5 in speaking test. I already enrolled in a review center and even speak to a native english speaker (american) regularly to improve my speaking skills but my scores did not improve. I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking maybe there are other english speaking countries out there beside U.S. which only require a minimum band score of 6.5 in speaking? Please help! I'm tired of retaking the test just to get atleast 7 spoken band.:bluecry1:

I think that is a good suggestion... What is the difference between IELTS and TOEFL-ibt? Which is harder? They say that taking IELTS is cheaper than TOEFL. Where can I get information regarding TOEFL-iBT? Thanks to all those who will reply.

TOEFL might help you pass the English exams, since there is a lesser feeling of consciousness, should I say. When I took TOEFL-iBT, during the speaking section, I become more confident and my mind is actually in jive with what I am saying out loud, if you know what I mean , because when I speak face to face, instead of thinking about the main idea of the topic, my mind goes someplace else, like "Oh is my grammar correct?" or "Is that too slang?" Outcome: scattered thoughts.

Since it is very tiring for you to take IELTS again, and too weary for another failure, why not try TOEFL? might take out some nerves.

Well of course, when you're already in an Engish speaking country, talking face to face will be on a daily basis, but just to get through the English requirement, perhaps TOEFL is for you. :heartbeat

Thanks Yoo Jin for your reply and for the encouragement. I will browse the internet about TOEFL-iBT.

Thank you so much yoo jin. I'll get some info. regarding TOEFL-ibt.

Much has been writte on this very topic on the Philippine Forum, please have a good read there.

The majority that post here that are from the Philippines have had much better luck with the speaking section from the IELTS exam.

I would check out other threads here before considering that exam, you also cannot take just the one section, you will need to write the entire iBT exam.

Hello!!!

i just got myresult!!

I also took the Ielts exam last july 26 and i share the same fate as this one..

I got an overall band score of 7.0, although my speaking is only 6.5..

My question is, Do they issue atleast the CGFNS CP certificate?,because to my understanding, Visa screen cert. only require's you to have at least 7.0 in speaking, and one thing more my sisters friend is petitioning me because she owns a manpower agency, is it possible to bypass the CGFNS visa cert.?.

You can not bypass VSC, so if you do not meet language requirements then you will not get the certificate therefore can not move to the US and work. Doesn't matter who is petitioning you you have to meet immigration requirements and if a English pass is required then you need it

Your sister is not petitioning you, it is being done by the employer. Therefore, you need to possess the VSC.

Even for those that get visas sponsored by family members, many facilities are now requiring proof of passing of one of the English exams or if skills are not good on the first interview, things to not progress from there.

Manpower is an agency, and they place nurses. If a facility does not accept them, then they do not work. You are still looking at five years plus for a chance at a visa, the agencies have nothing to do with the issuance of any type of visa.

CGFNS CP Certificate is only for those that have taken and passed the CGFNS exam. It is completely separate from the VSC, and not related to it at all.

i received my ielts result reccently and i did not attain a passing score for the speaking test, my examiner gave me a 6. my other subtests score were ok but i need a 7 for speaking.. if i apply for a remarking/enquiry on test results for my speaking, is there a chance that it can change? please can someone who experienced remarkin or know something abut this matter help me.. icon_cry.gif ur help will be deeply appreciated! icon_smile.gif

You can request for enquiry or a remarking, the result may or may not change. There is a fee of $150 (that's what I heard from a friend if you have taken the test here in the US) or if you will request for an earmarking in the Philippines,it will cost you around P5,000.00.

If your scores are changed, they will return what you have paid for and they will send you a new TRF (Test Report Form), otherwise the earmark fee will not be refunded to you if results remained as is. For more info contact the test centre where you took the test (British Council or IDP-Philippines )

I took IELTS and got 7 Overall and 7 in speaking. I registered in IDP Australia and scheduled in Baguio Philippines. Just answer what being asked. give at least 3 to 4 details. use some sort of strategies. like when, where, who, past present future.
