Hello everyone,
who is preparing to apply for the UW ABSN program? Applications start on August 2018 and school starts on June 18th 2019. I was informed I have to do the prerequisites so I decided to that in a local community college. Any body having hard time or on the track of doing their prereq??
All feedbacks welcome, and any kind of helpful hints that has helped you!
Thank you!
Hi everyone! Just wondering if I even stand a chance applying! I graduated in 2017 with my bachelors in biology with a 3.4. My freshman year I got a 2.4, and since then I have gotten a 3.5 or above each of my last 6 semesters. My pre-rec GPA is around a 3.3. I have 4000 healthcare hours as a paid ICU CNA, surgical Unit CNA, and I have just began volunteering after finishing my EMT certification. I also self taught myself conversational Spanish after several medical missions to Guatemala. My grades are terrible but my experience is alright, just wondering where I stack up!
With your experience, I'm pretty sure you're SUPER competitive. Don't worry too much about the GPA, they take so many other things into account, like carlymarie123 said.
Do any of you have an understanding of the types of questions that will be asked for the proctored essay? I assumed they were more abstract, like "what would you do if..." or "Explain an experience you've had in which,..." But, I saw in another forum post for UW that there is a math based question (med calc)? Anyone else heard that?
Yes, there will be three medication calculation math questions. The math isn't too hard but you have to know the process of conversion. A lot of people used dosagehelp.com and the youtube channel "Registered Nurse RN-medication calculation" videos to learn. Then you will see three patient scenarios and they will just ask you to choose one of the patients you would want to take care of and why. And then I think it asked something like based off the patient you chose, what is one of your strengths that you would implement in their care and what is one of your weaknesses that would hold you back or something along those lines. Time flies in the essay so make sure you can do the math quickly so yu can answer all the essay questions!
How did everyone do on the proctored exam? I know that I got the first two math questions right and I'm sad to say even though I did all of the work correctly on the third question, I accidentally wrote down the wrong answer (.6 instead of .4). I know I did well on my essay so I am hoping that missing the one one math question doesn't rule me out. It's done now so no use getting too upset. Now we wait!!! Is it mid-December yet?

From what I understand they have a very holistic selection process. Considering you have so much healthcare experience, I think you are definitely a competitive applicant. I'm applying with a 2.8 undergrad GPA and a 3.8 pre-req GPA, so I'm feeling similarly awful about grades... I have just over 1000 hours medical experience and recently got a job as an EMT, so I am hoping to sell myself in the optional statement! Good luck to you!
