Is anybody out there applying to the UVI St Thomas ASN program for fall 2010? I live on the west coast and would love to talk to anybody out there that has applied for this program or is currently enrolled. I understand that it is accredited, but how do I know if I will get enough education and experience there? Any responses would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

Hi! I am looking into this place too. If you find out any more information, PLEASE let me know. I am on the West Coast too, and am seriously considering this school due to the fact that I have been waiting over 2 years to get into the nursing programs here. Thanks! --Jennifer
Hey there I have applied to their ASN program, and I believe they extended their deadline to march 15th instead of Feb 15th for fall 2010. I have had a little bit of trouble with communicating with them. There is a pharmacology class required as a prereq which I have had trouble obtaining information on. Have you applied to their program yet?
They do have a lower GPA requirement of 2.5, but alot of places here where I live in Portland OR used to be that low also, so its hard to say if it says that much about the school itself. If you have any questions about the application I would be glad to help any any way I can.
Hi! Thanks...Yeah. I do have questions. I Just started looking into this program. I have not applied yet. So Portland is impacted to? I am in Newport Beach, Ca. So Cal is nearly impossible to get in anywhere right now.
Can you email me at [email protected]? Would love to ask more questions.
Thanks so much! ! --Jennifer

I have also been looking into UVI...however, the website doesn't seem to be fully functional. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the program? From other posts and the website I think that I read that you apply to the school and if you have a certain GPA and you did the certain prereqs you just sort of declare your major as nursing??? That seems too easy. I have tons of questions and the school website isn't proving to be very helpful. If anyone has gone to that school, and or graduated from it please let me know because I would love to go. Washington state is very impacted. Looking to travel anywhere to get in. I am so tired of waiting. Pretty soon my science classes are going to expire...
I would try the website again. I hear it is a small school, but that it is fully accredited. I have not heard of anybody that has graduated from the program, but I do understand that it is very small as in about 20 students per graduating class!

Hi everyone!
I am also interested in UVI. I am also in Oregon and applied to a couple of schools in Portland but so far I have been waitlisted and not accepted. It is so hard to get into nursing almost everywhere it seems these days. I know it wasn't this bad a few years ago, but I guess things have changed! Anyhow, I would also love to hear about cost of living, safety, the program itself, etc. I am to the point where I just want to get this done so I can start doing what I want to do!!!!
Thanks in advance!

I was in saint Thomas this week, like anyplace there are good and bad sections, I would also. Go over to the travel section where travel nurses worked in Saint Thomas. Cost of living is very high.
thanks for your reply! I found some posts and have been reading it! Thanks!
Hey there Purple Rose, I did not see your post until today. I also live in Portland OR and applied so 5 schools in the area, have been waitlisted for OHSU but only in their Ashlend program. I did get accepted to go to UVI in St Croix and am planning on moving there mid Aug. It was tricky to navigate my way around the application process. Their whole mindset is very different over there and things are set up a little differently with regards to prerequisites and requirements. This was my first choice however and I am very excited to be attending. Like I said said I would love to be in touch with anybody who is planning on going over there from my part of the world.
Cheers.

HI Salal,
Did you move to St. Croix? How is the school? Inquiring minds want to know! My boyfriend and I are considering going to UVI b/c the schools in the Puget Sound area are so competitive. I have a 3.7 gpa and am not considered a competitive applicant b/c I dont have a CNA license or health care volunteer hours. For me to get these, it would take about another year before I can even start applying. Plus, science courses expire after 5 years and Im 3 years into it so I need a program fast!
I have looked at various websites for rentals and condos for sale. Every website seems to have the same 40 places listed (in our price range) and most dont take pets. Did you have trouble finding a place to live or are you using the dorms?
