University of Texas at Arlington Fall 2020 Cohort

Published

Hello Everyone!!

It is finally my time to post to this forum! EXCITING!!! I did not see a thread for Fall 2020 and I might be SUUUUPER early but man that nursing application process takes proper a year doesn't it?

I am done with all my general courses and TEAS except for nursing chem, one elective (health and human disease), Patho, Pharm, and Intro to Nursing. I plan to take CHEM 1451 and HEED 4312 in the Fall 19 semester, apply in January, and then while waiting on that, take Patho and Intro to Nursing in Spring 2020 and Pharm by itself in Summer 2020.

I have an A in Micro, A&P 1, and A&P 2. This has been a LOOOONG journey and I cannot wait to start!

I believe that they only accepted to those who are partnered. However, this is totally unfair for them who are willing to complete their degree without any previous experience. It is hard to maintain 4 GPA for science courses and 4 GPA for all over courses. So, they should consider theses things too. At least, they should accept the students like me for campus-based program. Let see, what happens.....

I’m not partnered, but I did have 2 considerations for (1) a previous degree, and (2) 12+ science hrs at UTA. So, I had a whole point added to my total GPA of 7.859. I was nervous even still about getting accepted because the partnered applicants do get preference. Hang it there! You are probably in good shape to come off the wait list as others lose their spots for immunizations and paperwork not being in order!

Thank you so much to encourage me.

GPA is great, but most universities also take into consideration if you’ve taken a lot of classes there which is important to them. It should not be based only on your GPA which is how they are doing it. You should get consideration if you have a prior bachelors degree as well as being in the military which most universities do. It’s not an unfair process. If you are partnered, of course they’re going to take that into consideration. That’s a definite plus and they are going to look at people that are partnered before they look at people that are not. I am not partnered, but I have done my whole degree so far at University of Texas Arlington, and I do have all of my science credits there as well. And I am also ask military. So why shouldn’t I get consideration over somebody that doesn’t have any of that and maybe has better grades? So basically what I’m trying to say is that it’s great if you can get a 4.0 but that doesn’t mean everything in terms of getting into nursing school. So basically what I’m trying to say is that it’s great if you can get a 4.0 but that doesn’t mean everything in terms of getting into nursing school.

I understand these things very well. They should let us know all these things before but they can't. They said the only thing is GPA.

That is not true they tell you the ranking process and considerations on the nursing webpage and how they go about ranking people

But whenever I go there, they said maintain your GPA and you are good to go.

Well obviously maintaining your GPA helps, but your GPA doesn’t necessarily determine whether your in or not. I think many more people want to do online, so that’s where having some considerations will help. I chose campus because I’m not to far from it, and the idea of being in front of an instructor is far more appealing to me.

Yes, I think more people apply for online. This is the main reason they go for considerations. Anyways, if I am not selected this time, then apply agin for campus based. Hopefully, I will be select for Spring 2021.

I was told the same. “With that grade you will be fine” May be this time there were so many applicants with more than 8 points, that’s why we didn’t get in. But, what I have heard till now was that nursing is a tough subject and there is a higher drop out rate so Nursing school is competitive and ranks the students on the basis of their grades and TEAS scores. But, this was not the case that’s why I also got shocked. But, I can understand why they give consideration to their own students.

So I saw that this program can be completed in Oklahoma which is where I currently live. I have a 2.9 GPA will I even be competitive or should I retake everything to have a perfect 4.0?

Even a perfect 4 GPA doesn’t guarantee the acceptance. Having considerations is important and being partnered is a blessing.

What are they considerations? I couldn't find it on the website? What hospitals are partnered in Ft Worth?
