Anyone have any insight on this program? I'm in the process of applying and would love to know about the school!

I live locally, so I applied only to USF and one other school (I w/ drew my application to the other school a couple weeks ago, though....too disorganized!) and I didn't fully complete the USF application until early this month....getting my transcripts from a couple community colleges proved to be a bit trying!

have you heard anything about the acceptance for USF yet? I feel a little better since they required an essay ect. so they get to know the applicant more than just gpa and numbers! What was your previous bachelors in?

I attended one of the orientation sessions that the CON offers folks who are interested in the 2nd Degree Program and the Upper Division Program. The person doing the session indicated that this year is even more competitive (since they are receiving a greater no. of applications due to the economy).

She shared that the CON accepts 24 - 36 students for the ABSN out of about 500 applications....Umm...yeah. :lol2:The only comfort is, only 200 of the 500 typically meet the requirements. She said that they now base acceptance on a point system (not just GPA like before). FIVE Points are based on the following:

(1) Cumulative GPA (determined by USF, not the CON) (accepted students typically have - 3.4 - 3.6)

(2) Work Experience

(3) Volunteer/Healthcare Experience

(4) Writing Sample

(5) Grades in Individual Classes that Predict Success (A&PI, A&PII, Microbiology, Chemistry and Stats) - determined by the CON (she indicated that if you have mostly As and one or two Bs, you should be pretty competitive).

Although I'm not sure how, she said that more weight is given to #5 (individual classes that predict success).

The session was pretty informative. She was really open to answering questions...If you haven't had a chance to do so, I'd highly recommend attending one of the sessions (either on campus or online). HTH.

BTW, my undergrad degree is in Finance (BSBA). I was premed for a short while, though....so I'd taken General Chem (up to Organic), two semesters of Biology, the requisite Physics (2 semesters), Calc I, Stats, etc.....I also have a JD.

What about you? What was your degree in? I just read that you went to UF undergrad, yes? AWESOME - GO GATORS.....all day!!!

I live in Vero Beach so it would be difficult for me to attend a session because of work ect. But goodness, that is so many applications! I'm really freaked out! For the cum gpa - is that your undergrad gpa & pre-req's combined or just solely undergrad? I really hate this.

Yep I did attend UF! I loved it! I got my BA in Communication Sciences & Disorders (speech & Hearing) so the majority of my last 60 credits were all sciences so hopefully that would help a bit!

I'm fairly certain it includes any and all undergrad courses taken.

For example, I took 4 college courses (12 credits) while in high school through a community college, enrolled at UF for undergrad (a gazillion credits there), took Spanish I while in law school (5 credits) and then took 8 prereq courses (18 credits) during Spring and Summer 2009. When I received my acceptance letter from USF, the docs included a Transfer Credit Summary (TCS), reporting all of the courses/grades USF had received so far. On the final page of the TCS, they provided me w/ an overall transfer GPA (which I believe will be taken and combined with the grade(s) from the course(s) I took at USF Summer 2009, leaving me with a final cumulative GPA).

ETA: USF offers an online orientation/information session too. You just have to go to the CON website and sign up.

oh ok, yeah I remember seeing that transfer form. That makes sense.

I personally completed the last of the prereqs last summer, but it is my understanding that someone accepted in the Program in past semesters, was given a little pass on this particular requirement. She was allowed to turn in her application one week after the deadline in order to complete one prerequisite course.

Oh well I can see a week, I would of been attempting 7 weeks lol.

Specializes in Peds OR as RN, Peds ENT as NP.

I am applying to USF for the fall semester. You guys are all applying for summer right? I just applied yesterday to USF. I still need to clep sociology first which I will do sometime next week.

They do not allow you to complete any pre-requisites after the deadline. My chemistry class ends two days after the deadline and they will not consider it for the fall semester.
