University of South Alabama FNP

I am applying to USA's FNP program for this fall. I would love to hear from someone who is currently attending or who has recently graduated from this program. Did you have trouble finding clinical preceptors? Are the professors available if you have questions or concerns? How often do you have to visit campus? Overall, are you satisfied with the education you are receiving?

Thanks

If it helps any, I received my letter for USAs Peds NP program (MSN) yesterday.

Specializes in Pediatrics, home health, travel nurse.

I received my letter of acceptance today in the mail for the MSN FNP program at USA. Now that I am accepted, I am unsure if i want to accept the slot. I also applied to Saint Joseph's College of Maine and their program seems more conducive to the working individual being that their classes are self-paced. Well it looks like i got some thinkin' to do.

Specializes in ER, CCT, EMS.

Congratulations to you both! Do your letter come in a big or small envelope? I am still waiting. I applied to the dual FNP/ACNP with emergency focus. Has anyone else applied for that program?

I got accepted into the FNP/ACNP program. Received a regular sized envelope in the mail yesterday. Not sure if I'm going to accept here or wait for letters for the fall-start schools I applied to.

Congratulations!!!! Thank you for the reply. Would you mind sharing some of your stats (GPA, experience, etc.)? I am losing hope with every day that passes. I thought I would at least get a letter of rejection to know that my application was considered. I did get confirmation that my application was received some time ago so at least I know thats not the problem. Thanks again!

I had called the school the morning before I received the envelope. They said that all the letters would be out within a week or so, so hopefully you will hear something soon. I had a 3.82 gpa with 2 years med/surg and ICU experience. Are you pretty familiar with the school? Did you apply anywhere else?

Specializes in ICU.

I applied for FNP Spring '11. I have heard nothing! My stats are GPA 3.8 and 11 years in ICU. I'm not very hopeful at this point. I just wish I would hear something! even if its a rejection letter.

Allison, thank you for sharing your stats. Now I feel like crying because I don't think I will ever get in. My GPA is 3.4-something. My experience includes EMS, critical care transport (air and ground) and ER. I have many certifications, professional association affiliations and still remain active as both a paramedic and nurse. I have researched USA, but my knowledge about them is limited to the internet. I didn't apply to any other schools. This one seemed to fit what I want with a reasonable price. My location limits my options quite a bit. If I don't get in I will try again for Summer and then fall as well as the DNP route. I really wanted the MSN route because I wanted to be able to work as an NP while continuing on to DNP.

Good luck to you! I hope you hear something soon too. Please give an update when you hear. Another 3.8 GPA to make me feel more inadequate! ;)

I got accepted and my GPA is 3.4. Nursing was my second degree at the same school and they didn't seperate the 2 GPAs so that's a combo of two bachelor degrees. I have 2 years of peds experience.

Specializes in ER, CCT, EMS.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope, I really needed that!

808medicRN, It sounds like you have a lot of great experience! I wouldnt write off USA just yet. It sounds like they are stilll weeding through the very large pile of applicants. Good luck. Keep us posted!

Yesterday was Sunday so I got to rest my obsessing brain knowing that there was no mail to worry about. This morning I got an email response from USA (I had sent them an email on Friday). The email said the admissions committee is still making decisions and letters are being sent out in waves. That made me be able to breathe a little better. :heartbeat
