University of San Francisco MSN-CNL for non-nurses- Summer 2015

Published

Hi everyone

Fairly new to this website. I submitted my app to USF this morning for the summer term of 2015, and just wanted to get a thread going and get in contact with some of you on the same boat as me. Best of luck to those of you in the process of submitting

Hello! I got the call earlier today... So excited... And congrats rcien, sz1991, rockko!

rcien, do you mind giving your reasons behind your decision towards SMU? Of course, only what you wish to share. I'm in the same boat as you, as I too have been accepted at SMU.

Also anyone know how many seats are available?

thanks!

What program at SMU are you accepted for? I am choosing SMU for several reasons.

1) The Case Management program goes well with my undergraduate degree in Gerontology.

2) As I look at job postings, every couple of hours there are new postings for RN Case Managers whereas for CNL postings varies with a day or two.

3) Location: I live in the East Bay so I do not need to commute through SF heavy traffic.

4) When I look at other forums, people say Kaiser and many other Bay Area hospitals like nurses that have graduated from SMU. This is also important as I intend to live in the Bay Area.

NCLEX pass rates are very close! I think both programs and schools have a very good reputation in the Bay Area.

I also got into both schools. I'll chose USF cause of the low interest loan rate.

What are the interest rates for USF? I have yet to out anything on loans for USF

I got into western and am having trouble choosing :/ how would you guys decide between two schools? Also, what are you guys planning to do about living situations? I live in LA and have no clue where to start.

Has anybody created a Facebook group for the new cohort?

I decided based on three things: school that is close to where I live now, the type of program that leads me closer to reach my goals, the kind of loans I have access to.

I live in SF so USF is ideal. The MSN will allow me to apply sooner to a NP program compared with the ABSN. Finally the MSN will let me get some federal loans, with low interest rate or at least fixed interest rate.

I haven't seen any. I can't join any fb group yet cause I haven't told my boss I am leaving my work. I have to wait for a bit. Pls let me know if you find or create one!

okay! Does anyone have any advice for housing? I'll be moving from LA and have no clue where to begin searching for houssing

Hi all!

Congrats to those that got in!! I received my letter about being on the wait-list today. :-/

But these things work out as they should, I suppose!

sz1991 - apartment searching in SF can be a bit crazy at times, but from my experience craigslist is your best bet.

I would suggest reaching out to fellow students on facebook (once a group is started for the cohort)

and/or perhaps an AirBnB room or the like for a bit, and then you can be in the area while you're searching for options.

Unfortunately it is pricey up here these days - with Studios often being around $1700-$2000 to start...and 1 BRs often going for above $3000/month.

but if you're ok with sharing with 2-3 people in a larger apt, the prices can become reasonable again.

I'm sure if you find some potential options and want to check the neighborhood out for safety/weather/overall feel that you could post here or on facebook and you'll get some good feedback!

also - the surrounding areas are sometimes a bit cheaper.

And while a commute in is never fun, there is public transportation for class days - and the clinical sites are all over the bay area, so the farther in to school you get, the less you may need to be in the actual city of SF.

Best of luck to all!!

Wow thank you for this detailed and extremely helpful advice, diane!! Has anyone received the admissions packet yet? I can't find anywhere online that says how much the deposit is and when we should pay it by

Just recieved the admissions packet. The deposit is $500
