University of San Francisco MSN-CNL for non-nurses- Summer 2015

Published

Hi everyone

Fairly new to this website. I submitted my app to USF this morning for the summer term of 2015, and just wanted to get a thread going and get in contact with some of you on the same boat as me. Best of luck to those of you in the process of submitting

Hi Everyone! I have also been accepted for summer 2015 and am so excited to meet all of you! Feel free to add me on facebook (Lauren Bucolo) so we can get in touch! Practically cried when I got the phone call. Can't believe it all starts so soon!

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations to all of the applicants who got in!! Good luck to those of you who did not. I found out I was put on the wait-list, which was bittersweet because I thought my application was pretty strong (3.9 undergrad, 4 yrs volunteer experience, internship at a local hospital, and two great letters of rec.), but also a bit of a relief because I was really apprehensive about the cost of tuition.

To those of you who got in: do you mind sharing any tips/advice? USF was my first application, I plan to apply to many more schools this fall, I'd love to know if there is anything else I can work on until then. Also, if you have any other California schools you considered, I'd love to know so I can include them in my research.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi Jessers! I would look into WesternU, USD, CSUN has an Accelerated BSN progam, APU, CSULA has a great program. I was accepted to Western and rescinded my spot to attend USF. Aside from finishing up my undergrad, I work as a medical scribe in the ED, and I think it's greatest decision I've made. I've gained so much exposure working with providers, which I think might make the medical terminology aspect of nursing school effortless for me. That's one thing I would recommend, because I know USF loves to see community involvement. I have a lot of volunteer experience and I think the one thing that stood out was that I'm doing my undergrad in Health Admin, so I've learned a lot about leadership and been a part of several community leadership events. I know they value community involvement, because my cumulative GPA isn't nearly as close to 3.9. These are just a few suggestions/ideas, but I'd strongly recommend looking into the medical scribe position! I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors :)

Hey everyone,

I just gave up my seat. So I hope one of you will hear next week.

I'll be going to Samuel Merritt University. Admitted to the ELMSN FNP program.

Hey all,

I just also gave up my seat.

I will also be going to Samuel Merritt University for their ELMSN-CM Program.

Good luck everyone!

Hey rcien,

See you at Orientation, whenever that is... Have you heard anything besides the acceptance and requirements we need to meet?

Not really. One of the admissions lady called me. She told me orientation is 2 weeks before class starts. If I remember she also mentioned financial aid packets will released end of June?

USF sure was fast, they called today to offer me a seat. Now the real trouble is making a decision and quickly. I'm very excited about the school but still nervous about the cost of tuition.

Congratulations Jessers! I agree the cost of tuition is expensive, but have you compared it to the cost of tuition to the other schools you are planning on applying to? Also, have you applyied to them should also be considered. What program is what truly calls to you. Is the CNL role what you want? If so, you are already admitted to a program, now, today! Good luck in making your decision.

I chose not to take them up on the offered seat, b/c I wanted the Nurse Practitioner specialty. Also I compared what tuition was and the difference per unit is about $6. Yes, SMU's program is an extra year, but that's ok. It's the program I wanted. Also, I will be commuting to Oakland from SF. Where I could have just traveled w/in SF, but it's the price I'm willing to pay. I believe it will all be worth it in the end. :)

Thanks eabaunza and congratulations to you too! You made excellent points about everything you've said. I do think that of the programs I've researched, the CNL role is the best fit for me. My undergraduate degree focused on the health care administration and improving the delivery of care, and I love love loved it, so I think its a sign that the CNL route is best for me.

It's funny that you'll be commuting from SF to Oakland, I'll be going in the opposite direction (I live within blocks of SM). We will probably pass each other many times over the next few years. Good luck in your program and studies!

I just got into the program also :) I am trying to add into the group but it won't let me. My name is Lan Tran. Yay I'm super excited!
