University of San Francisco Entry Level MSN CNL spring 2014

Published

Has anyone else out there applied to University of San Francisco Entry Level MSN CNL program for spring 2014?

Thanks @statsleeper, really appreciate the advice!

@emzie25, sorry to hear you didn't get the call, but there's definitely still hope!

As far as my application, I would echo what Loma28 said regarding the personal statement. I think everyone they seriously consider probably has good/strong grades so the personal statement becomes an opportunity to set yourself apart and highlight what may not be apparent on your transcripts.

I started writing my statement several months in advance and included my strengths and activities that weren't on my transcripts or in my rec. letters. I felt that I wrote a pretty compelling statement and I had lots of time to do edits and polish it up.

Aside from that, it's hard to tell exactly why they chose some of us over others. You seem like a very strong candidate and I hope it works out for you!

Thanks for responding Loma and Eastbay!

I was definitely proud of my personal statement but perhaps focused too much on why I want to be a nurse rather than highlighting the things I couldn't provide detail about in the rest of application. Definitely something to note if I have to reapply!

@statsleeper Thank you! I was already looking into the Littmann Classic II, good to know that people in the program use it and like it. And also for the recommendation on scrubs, I think I can afford to shell out a little more money to have scrubs like those on my favorite TV show!

@ SJforlife I live in the east bay and am planning on commuting to USF. I was pleasantly surprised to see that with an exception to the days we have clincals, class starts at 10:30, which is definitely reasonable. On those days I am planning to take bart and Muni, and then will most likely drive to Laguna Honda once a week for clinicals. I’m a little nervous because I don’t have much experience traveling by Muni, but I’m hoping I will catch on eventually. What about you?

Congratulations Loma and eastbaybay!! Looking forward to meeting you both on the 14th.

@Loma28 Congratulations on your acceptance! welcome to Cohort 17! On your acceptance letter, it will say the earliest date that your online status will be updated from "Application Submitted" to "Decision Status." Only then, can you click that link to submit your Intent to Enroll Form and place the $500 deposit. For me, it took 5 days after the arrival of my letter to get the "Decision Status" to show on my online application. I did not find a facebook group for our cohort yet. We should definitely exchange emails!

@eastbaybay Congrats on your acceptance!! We should exchange contact information! What are your living plans for next semester?

@andaughe Thanks for your response. I was also surprised and happy that all of our classes (with the exception of our clinical labs) start in the late morning. I've been planning out how to commute from the South Bay most efficiently and I may be taking Caltrain, Bart, and then Muni for each trip to and from campus. Yikes! Maybe living in SF is worth the cost. . .I'm still looking for apartments to keep my options open. I'm also nervous about getting to classes on time, but it's just a matter of getting into the routine. Getting to orientation would be a good practice round!

@ emzie25, there is still hope for your acceptance!! Out of all the components of my application, I can say for a fact that I worked on my personal statement the most. I made sure to articulate my interest in nursing, but more than that I explained in detail why I selected USF's program over others. I related USF's program to my research interest as a future nurse and why the two are good match. I hope this helps!

@ statsleeper Thanks for the continuous words of advice!

@"all those accepted"--congrats! Also, in terms of providing a little help for those that have been wait-listed, I was wondering 2 things:

1. A few posts ago someone mentioned that only 4 seats had been registered in classes for the Spring. What's that number up to now?

2. For the Health Requirements, what company do they want used for the Background Check/Drug Test? (I'm assuming the titres for immunization are acceptable from any healthcare provider.)

--Thanks and Happy Holidays!

has anyone else not heard back?

:sigh: :banghead:

I haven't heard back either. I'm really hoping we get an answer this week!

I haven't heard back yet either, but I was thinking I might as well get the health requirements done (just in case of a wait list letter that turns into an offer at the last minute).

Seriously, this waiting game is psychological torture: My mind is playing "hopeful" tricks on me. Ie. My last name is at the end of the alphabet so maybe they just do the letters in alphabetical order! (yeah right, wishful thinking). Regardless, I'm beginning to think about alternate plans and personal statement improvements, etc.

hi everyone, i've been reading this forum for awhile. I just want to let you know I called the office yesterday and she said the last letters were sent out yesterday or today. For acceptances, she said, depending on time, you may get a call or not.

@SJforlife11,

I was actually able to submit my intent to enroll, but not able to set up my USFconnect account in order to pay the deposit. My online application decision is also available. Maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself and should wait a few more days...I received my letter on Saturday the 14th, so technically it hasn't been 5 days?
