Hello!

I know it's still early on in the game but I was wondering if anyone applied for USFs BSN program for spring 14? I just applied. IF so, do you mind sharing your GPA, Volunteer/Work experience? :)

Does anyone know how many people they are accepting?

They accept 15-20% of the applicants. I believe they accept 40-45 students

Hello... I applied for USF spring 2014. I have a 3.06 GPA overall, I've been emailing with kate carter ever since july/august, and also have talked to her on the phone. I thought at first that she was a counselor, and I told her everything about me, school, gpa, work what classes I have taken. I asked her questions like If I should retake Psychology 1 since I got a C, she said no, its fine and just to take an articulation agreement and get an A. So I took Philosophy 2 and got an A.

Then I found out that she was the director of admissions for nursing specifically. I ran every step past her, even the fact that I have 2 C's in science. She said its okay, as long as my essay is strong. Thankfully I'm a writer and feel strong about it. I included in my essay that I sponsor a 5 year old child in Ethiopia through World Vision, a non profit Christian organization. Through World Vision we run half marathons and raise money for clean water in Africa. I also wrote about my journey and how I started writing a book about the social distractions within our generation through the lenses of faith in the good of people. My letter of recommendation is from an Author, whom I met at a retreat as she was keynote speaker. Along with a letter from my speech teacher. I ran my recommenders past Kate Carter as well and she asked me of my relationship with the author and our interactions. I let her know that we email each other, and she is a mentor for me.

My GPA is not strong, but I have specifically asked Kate Carter about that and she said that as long as my essay and letters of recommendations are strong then I am in fair game.

How was everybody's application process??

Good luck to all, and don't give up!

Wow chesrose! What an inspiring situation you have. I'm sort of in a similar note, I have a C in a science prerequisite as well. Let's cross our fingers!

@chesrose you sound like a strong application! I've also been emailing with her back and forth ( by the way, you're not supposed to mention names on this forum it's against the policy) I think I probably annoyed her with too many emailS about receiving my documents >.

By the way, does anybody know how the waitlist works? Or alternative list?

welcome to the forum, chesrose!

i dont remember ever mentioning my application process on here, but i initially applied for fall 2013. i was accepted into the program, transferring from SJSU. my grades werent straight a's, but i did have an a or b in all of the pre reqs and some c's in some classes that usf wasnt really looking at. i believe i did a really good job on the essay (something about usfs mission) because i did extensive research on their mission and incorporated it into my essay. i did decline my admission, however because i was told that clinicals for the fall 2013 cohort wouldnt start until spring 2014, so id be forced to be in school part time and pay a whole lot for a couple units. i also denied because the thought of a three year program with each year being above 40k gave me so much anxiety. i was also waiting for smu to get back to me, but i didnt even get in for the fall 2013 cohort either. so i took this semester off. the first time i applied i was constantly emailing back and forth with the admissions director (whose name was mentioned earlier) and met her at one of the info sessions as well, so i feel like i made some kind of impression on her.

this time around for the application process for spring 2014, i wasnt even planning on applying, but i thought, what the heck, i might as well. im ready to make that commitment for my education, so if theyll accept me, then ill do it. but im also waiting for smu, i think i should be hearing from them by this monday (fingers crossed!!!!!)

Out of curiosity, did anyone submit their application through the CommonApp?

It seems like after reading all of the comments, almost everyone applied on their website. I'm just wondering because I used the CommonApp since I applied to other schools that use the CommonApp and because I'm getting a little nervous since the essay prompt for USF on the CommonApp is just a personal statement. The personal statement is essentially your intentions on transferring, which is really different form the essay prompt on the USF website.

@george21 I know what you are referring to because I was initially going to apply through common app, but it was a little too confusing for me. I went with the USF application to be safe. I emailed a counselor and was told that that wasn't the essay. The essay prompt is about the mission of the university and what you could offer to the school. However, I'm not really sure with how the common app works. I would contact someone in the university about your question for a more clear answer.

@george21 If you followed the directions correctly on the common app and did your best to fulfill their essay prompt, then don't worry about it. You should be fine, I think the difference between the 2 applications is that you have to pay for the common app and not through the website? That's what Dominican told me about theirs, so maybe its the same for USF.

Does anyone know when they're going to send out the letters???! I am going a little crazy over here. I can barely get ahold of anyone at USF.

about one week right?!

@Chesrose Letters will be sent out by the end of next week. Best wishes to all! The wait will soon be over.

This is going to be.... the longest two weeks of my life.........
