Just trying to find others out there that applied to university of Rochester's ABPNN for September 2020 start! Anyone have their interview scheduled?? Done with their interview?

Yes, my interview is scheduled for 3/26. Do you know if they prefer the zoom like video or just calling over the phone? Just so I have an idea of what to do. I'll be at work too but at the time it was the only slot open so I just took it.

Yes, still graduating. They can't keep my degree forever. Virus or not. But I won't finish my last prerequisites until end of July. The issue I've been having with schools is that my university and even the community colleges here make A&P one class instead of 2. The one class is only 5 credits. Most schools want 6-8 credits in A&P. Even tried doing a course evaluation for some schools. So my thing is if I retake it with UoR, I know they'll accept it but the problem with that is they don't have a lab part to it which most school require. It would only be beneficial to UoR. Then I'd have to retake A&P somewhere else for the 3rd time with a lab in order for it to be sufficient for other schools. So I'm hoping to get in and just take A&P online with UoR and be done. Haha I know that's a lot and might be confusing. I want to know asap so I know if I should take it elsewhere or with them. Oh and before the July 1st deadline in case I need to reapply for January 2021.

I touched on other points in my personal statement because I have too much experience and 500 words max wasn't enough words to elaborate and focus on.

I'm just thinking if they told people who had their interview at the beginning of March ~8-10 weeks, that would be around the last week of April or first 2 weeks of May. Now come 3/26, if they tell me ~8-10 weeks, I just might pass out. Because they have interviews scheduled the first 2 weeks of April too. But guess we shall see.

Are you out of state? Or in NY, just not near UoR?

I did the zoom just so they could get more of a sense for my personality but I think the phone interview is just as effective.
That’s so frustrating about the A&P. UofR doesn’t take the 5 credit A&P? I had a similar situation with my university where the one they offered was only good for their nursing school because it was combined so I ended up taking it at a community college and it’s divided over two semesters. I feel like if you did the course evaluations schools should take it anyways! I would keep looking into community colleges because I know the ones by me offer a combined as well as one that’s divided over two semesters. I feel the same way though...I’m not taking the nutrition with them until I find out that I’m accepted or denied, you know?

Do you know if they would move the application to January if we don’t get in for the fall? I wouldn’t want to have to redo the whole thing and get recommendation letters again and all that. They told me that everyone will hear back sometime in May and that they stop doing interviews on April 10th to start making decisions. I looked on the thread for last years fall and they were getting decisions back in late June so that kind of threw me off.

I’m from Long Island so about 6/7 hours away from Rochester. How about you?

Oh okay. Makes sense. I'm sure either or is fine. They wouldn't have told us about both options if it wasn't. But then apart of me is like, "Hmm, is this a trick?" Anyways, I'm not sure yet if they are accepting it or not but I want to be on the safe side just in case they don't. I guess I'll find out if I'm accepted and it says based on successfully completion of A&P or whatever. Yeah, even with the course evaluations for other schools, they still didn't. Think that's just one more way for them to weed applicants out honestly. Because we learn everything in that one semester. We cover every system, bone, organ, muscle, etc. So it's the same. None of the schools within 2 hours away from me offer it in 2 separate courses. Even if so, I wouldn't have time to take two if I'm anticipating an August start date. Now if I didn't get in this round, that's different.

But I sure hope they would just move it. Good question. I don't want to go through the letters of recommendation again either. The application itself wasn't bad. But another personal statement and possibly add experience to my resume. Just too much to even think about.

Geesh, that's almost 2 months to make decisions. Hopefully they are quicker this semester. With the way things are going right now with this virus, I'm kind of in the middle. Like will that slow the process down or will it allow them more time to focus on making decisions since there isn't any face to face activity or clinicals on campus.

Oh okay. I'm from Michigan which is about 5.5 hours from Rochester. Crazy how your further away and in the same state. I was trying to get away from this weather but NY weather isn't any different than here.

Yeah I’m not sure how the virus will effect decision making because I’m sure like a whole committee has to sit down together and make the decisions. But then again they can also do a videoconference and talk about all the applicants LOL

Yes definitely crazy, but I went to university at buffalo for part of my ungrad and that was even further! I love a good Winter and we barely have winters here anymore so the idea of Rochesters weather is exciting to me

I’m not sure if this is right but I think it will be 8-10 weeks after their last interviews. They said 8-10weeks after their deadline but maybe they weren’t talking about the deadline of the application. Maybe they have their own deadline to get interviews done and make a decision. Based on older forums it looks like they didn’t find out until late may or late June which would put us around the 8-10weeks after the later interviews that will be done. But IDK I’m just trying to take a wild guess at this point. Let me know if anyone else has any insight or was given any different info!

I asked during my interview and was told that they stop doing interviews (1st and 2nd round) and start reviewing applications on April 10th and that we would have a decision sometime in May. But on past forums I'm pretty sure I saw people having interviews in May so IDK

Thanks for this info!

Hi all. OMG didn't know this thread existed. I just got emailed an interview invite for this coming Monday at 10 AM. Does anyone have any tips for the interview? And do you think it makes a difference if I call in rather than use the zoom?

Also, do you know if they interview all applicants? or they pick from the pool? thanks so much ❤️

CONGRATS! Mine is on Thursday. Look at previous cohort threads to find out some of the questions. Common questions I saw were 1.) Why UoR? 2.) Why nursing? 3.) Talk about experience/resume 4.) How so you study? 5.) How did you hear about their program? 6.) Describe a stressful situation 7.) How do you push yourself intellectually? I would reheorifice some of the common nursing questions. You can also find more online. Now, I don't think it makes a difference if you call in or video. I wanted to know too but they're both good. I'll be at work so I'm going to have to call in vs video chat but I know people who did both and both got admitted in previous cohorts. If you find out a definite answer let me know. The website states they don't offer every applicant an interview and ones who aren't offered will receive a denial letter.

thank you so much! WOW! this school is SUPER holisitic because my undergrad GPA is 2.97 (but my personal statement is very strong and one of my letters if from a NP) so I THOUGHT I had no shot..the fact I was offered an interview makes me happy. I think I'm gonna call in too LOL.

also when I was picking interview dates, there was a whole week open and available. I picked Monday morning cause wanted to rip the band aid and in my head I think its always better me to go first so less to be compared to haha.

Good luck to everyone that has interviews this week!! The waiting game is the worst part at this point once the interview is over! I’m going nuts!
