I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!
Sounds good URHopeful, also it may not be that long till we hear back. I called today and was told decisions will go out Mid-May!
Also, are you a vegetarian? I was a vegetarian for 8 years, just stopped a year or so ago. I still love a ton of vegetarian food though (I come from a vegetarian family, lol).
I agree with URHopeful about going out for some food after orientation. After we all get in and connect on FB, we'll plan it out! :)
Hey Siberian,
Wow Mid-May is soooo close. Yes, I am vegetarian and have been all my life. I do not eat any meat, poultry, fish, eggs and mostly all dairy except it is still tough to avoid ice cream LOL. Cheese is also tough sometimes for me still. Wow, your family went vegetarian? Can I ask why? My parents went vegetarian when I was first born due to the treatment of animals, the processing methods, and because they thought it would bring us being more spiritually enlightened. My parent are really into organics, natural and homeopathic medicine, eastern medicine and complimentary therapies. Instead of going to the doctor, we always had home remedies and went to the local "medicine" man. We grew up on a farm and it was a great experience. I do not judge others that do eat me, it is just my personal choice and has become a part of my identity. What is your background if you do not mind me asking?
Your family sounds interesting, UR, lol.
Mine's sort of similar, but not quite as extreme. I grew up eating only organics, and my mom has been a vegetarian since she was a teenager. She slowly converted my family to think the same by pointing to scientific studies of health effects, showing us the reality of slaughterhouses, etc. I was devout vegetarian until I moved closer to NYC, and started going to the world-renowned restaurants there. I realized the best dishes at the top restaraunts were meat, and I felt like I was missing out, so I slowly converted back. I still only eat red meat very rarely (like 5-6 times per month) but I do eat a lot of chicken and pork. When I do eat meat, I try to ensure that it is organic/human/free-range/hormone-free/antibiotic-free, etc.
Also, We like modern medicine (though my mom hates how doctors dispense antibiotics for everything).
Hi everyone! I havent written on here in what feels like forever so I thought I'd jump on. I can't believe they interviewed 200 people, but at the same time they did get over 400 applications so they narrowed it to at least half. The wait is killing me as I'm sure it is for everyone else, but hopefully we can keep each other sane on here! Also a facebook group sounds like a great idea, and fingers crossed we can all be a part of it! : )
That's my plan Syberian. I don't know how else to do it except through loans....unless I win the lotto! Haha! I think my parents would agree to co-sign and I'm hoping to try to get what I can through FAFSA, TAP, etc. But in the end, it will be an investment that is worth it! Any one else have any ideas on how to finance the tuition?
Agreed xox! Now, important question that no one has really answered - how is everyone paying for it!? The cost of attendence with tuition, board, supplies, etc is like 65K+, and we're only eligible for a little bit of federal loans. Is everyone taking out massive private loans?
oooh man.. thanx for killing my buzz... I was really relieved to see that they had narrowed it down to 200 and were going to admit 60.. but now we get to the reality of it.. how to pay for it all? I really haven't thought about it. I will worry about that if and when I get admitted.
Also, are they really going to send out their decisions mid-May?? That is next week! I hope to hear soon! The wait is killing me. Hang in there everybody, I hope we all hear the good news soon :)

I know. The price is crazy high and we get NO financial aid - and in fact, only about $7,500 in federal loans...leaving quite a bit for private loans.
On the plus side, with good credit, private loans have lower interest rates than federal ones.
So random question....but does anyone know if there is a dress code to class for the program? Obviously there will be one during our clinical rotations, but I know a lot of master's programs expect business casual attire everyday, though technically the first year of this program is still undegrad. Really random, I know!
Well......being accelerated, I assume we start clinicals soon after entering...so I bet our dress code is scrubs most days. If you look at the viewbook they send, you'll see the nursing students are always wearing scrubs, even in class.
My wardrobe is going to look so funny. I open my closet and it's 30 different pairs of scrubs. "Ralph Lauren or Lacoste...?" is going to be become "Green or navy scrubs today...?" lol
Hi guys, if you are interested in the dress code for the program check out.

This is the student handbook for the school of nursing and it has a section on the policy for appropiate dressing. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Hi Peglegmeg,
I think we should all come up with creative names especially when we start our facebook. You seem like a light hearted person with a fun spirit. I am counting down the days till this semester is over. I am in my last week. Hope everyone well with their finals.
Syberian,
I can start a FB group but think I will wait a few weeks till we start to hear back. Great idea about thinking positively as if we are accepted. I think it will help the time pass. think I might take another trip to Rochester to check out the campus and city a little more. It seems like a real cozy and laid back city. I went down Park Ave the last time I was there and I love the local restaurants. Great options for vegetarians which is a plus. LOL
Best Wishes to you all and maybe after we all find out and have orientation we can go out around town for some great food.
