University of Rochester ABPNN Jan. 2016

Published

Hello!

I've been looking at allnurses to see if anyone had started a thread for the U of R January 2016 ABPNN program yet but I have not seen one. I figured I'd go ahead and begin. While they are still accepting applications until July 1st, I got everything in early and just had my interview this morning. I think it went well but I won't really know until they make their decision (the faculty member said I probably won't hear anything until mid-September). Anyone else applying for this cohort?

Thanks - any advice regarding accommodation would be good.

To the people who have completed and are currently going through the program-Are there certain classes you didn't feel like you really needed the textbook? What classes do you absolutely need the textbook. I currently have a 2010 HP laptop-should I upgrade for this upcoming year? I can't send PM yet but please feel free to give all the advice you can! Thanks!

I moved to the Rochester area three years ago (my home is six hours away and I moved completely alone) to work for the university. If you have any questions, need help, please feel free the reach out. I lived in the Goler house for six months when I first came to Rochester. It is a an option for student housing. Great location and now there is college town.

elawliss, did you hear anything yet or are you just planning ahead?

Regarding accommodations/ housing there are a lot of options in Rochester. Goler house mentioned above us student housing right on campus. Other options are houses that people tent out to students. A lot of people went with this option because the houses are alright next to the school of nursing. Just Google student housing for the university of rochester school of nursing and you should find the link. If not I can find it and post here. The other options are apartments and you have a lot of options here too. Some stayed at Rustic Village which has a shuttle system to get you to school if you don't have a car. Its about a 5-10 min ride to school depending on traffic. Just look up apartment complexes in Rochester N.Y. and you'll get a ton of options. I just know rustic is good and fairly close as are the houses mentioned above where you can walk to school from. In regards to textbooks, there are a couple we used and some we didn't. Definitely get the book for pharmacology... I think you have to get two for that class so get both they will help you for the final project. Also get the med surg book and the nursing diagnosis book. You don't necessarily need a drug book bc you can just use lexicomp. Can't remember what other textbooks we used. The psych and maternity/newborn we used but rarely and the books for research we did not use at all.

AllieLPN2 I am just a planner. I have not heard anything official yet.

I know that we probably have another week to go but I must say, I'm having a hard time focusing on other things with this wait. So much anxiety :nailbiting: No calls to anyone yet, right?

Got the call about an hour ago - I'm in! Hooray!!!

Congrats!!!! Now it's time for me to get super nervous! I hope I get one!

I got the call a few minutes ago! I'm in, too!!

I got my call as well and I am also accepted!! Woo hoo
