Hello everyone!
My name is Angie and I am going to start University of Portland's nursing program Spring 2011. I guess I would like to know who else uses this board that is going to attend U of P's nursing program Spring 2011. It would be nice if we could start a facebook page for our cohort, so if anyone is interested let me know.
I am going to be moving from Redmond, Oregon, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on areas to live. Also, are most of you planning to take the theology courses while in the program, or are you trying to finish the courses before you start.
Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you all soon!

Hi Angie,
My name is Kim. I am also going to start nursing at UP this Spring. I think you might be able to add me on facebook through my email at [email protected]. As for the theology classes, I took Old Testament and New Testament this summer at Mt. Hood CC to save money. You should really think about taking it there because it'll save you a lot of money. I took mine online so maybe they will have these classes online in the fall as well.

Congrats on getting into nursing school! I just graduated from the nursing program at UP in August. As for whether to take the old testament/new testament before or during nursing school I would strongly suggest doing it before. I took mine at clackamas cc prior to beginning nursing school and it was nice to not have a theology course added to an already busy schedule. The theology class at UP from what I heard from other students consists of multiple very long papers that are due over the course of the term. I believe the class I took at a cc was much easier than the theology class offered at UP. I was looking for blogs related to UP to see if by chance I could sell/give some of my books to those who could use them. I kept a lot of my books throughout nursing school and while studying for the NCLEX thinking that I may use them for a reference, but I have narrowed them down to only a few I would like to keep. If either of you are interested or have anymore questions about UP's program just let me know!

Hi Angie!
I will be starting UP in Spring as well. When I found out I got into UP, my husband and I decided to move close to the school. If you are not familiar with the area, I would recommend searching the area "Portsmouth" on Craigslist. I think the closer you are to the school the better. One recommendation would also be to not live on the East side of Lombard. The west side of Lombard is closer to the school and does not have as much issues as the East side. Just my opinion now that I have lived in the area for about 4 months.
I am going to be taking Old/New Testament while in the program. I am a Providence Scholar and if I take it during the program curriculum it will be included in the scholarship. I know it will make one of my semesters just that much harder but UP is expensive!
I can't believe we only have three more months until we start! Looking forward to meeting everyone :)
