University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help!

I submitted my application for the Spring term over a month ago and have been regularly checking the status to make sure all my test scores and transcripts were received. Everything was complete until yesterday! Now there is something called a "supplemental application" that they are saying that I need. The deadline is Friday! I just called the advising line to get assistance, but it goes straight to voicemail. I have left a message and hope to hear from someone soon.

Does anyone know what this "supplemental application" is? I searched all through the application and website and cannot find anything about it.

Agh....what is it?

Hi enb611: I am looking at the application and think maybe you missed something called "Undergraduate Nursing Supplemental"? When you look at all the headers on the lefthand sidebar, it is in a separate header after you sign the application. It asks you some short answers about how you feel about nursing and about where you are employed, etc.

There is also an application workshop in Glendale today that I am sure can help you. I got an e-mail that says:

"The enrollment deadline for our Spring 2010 group of students is quickly approaching. We think we have a very special group of students currently participating in our classes, and we hope you will join other students with similar goals and ambitions - students who want to make a difference in the lives of others.

You are encouraged to submit your application by October 1, 2009 to be considered for admission. If you have not yet submitted your application for the Spring 2010 class, we will be holding Application Workshops for those who have not yet submitted their applications to the University of Oklahoma. These will be held at the following times:

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

You will be guided through the application process from start to finish in these sessions. The sessions will be held at our office at (xxxxxx, Glendale, CA. Please bring a complete set of official transcripts (unopened) to the workshop. If you were not born in the U.S., please bring documentation including your birth certificate, passport, and naturalization papers (if applicable).

Please contact our office directly at xxx-xxx-xxxx to RSVP if possible; you may attend without RSVP'ing, but to ensure that we will have a computer that you can utilize for this, please let us know as soon as possible as space is limited!"

...I know this is last minute, but this is probably a good "preview" for applicants of other terms! In the meantime, I need to to stop laboring over the short essays and send off the application already...

I was finally able to reach someone with the San Diego program that was extremely helpful. Not only did she answer my questions, but went out of her way to make sure that I had completed the process correctly and didn't have any further questions.

It turns out that the "supplemental application" was the 5 short answer questions at the end of the application. I had completed that and the computer was just glitching by indicating that I still needed to complete it. All is good and now I can relax....wait, I still have to wait in agony to find out if I got in...so much for relaxing.

Today is the deadline...I wonder how many people applied for SD. GL!!

When I spoke with the advisor yesterday from San Diego she mentioned that approx 160 people had applied. I know that I asked how many they were taking, but I can't remember. It seems to me that it was about 1/3 of that number.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. You never know how many of those applicants are well qualified or have courses in progress.

Hi Marionnette, I have 2 pre-reqs to complete before applying. I really want to get them out the so I can start this thing. :) Here's my question: can you share the spread sheet of the online instituions that they accept pre-reqs from? I attended an info session and I have an advisory appointment with them on the 5th. However, the wait is killing me, I want to start making my plan now. :) I'd greatly appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hi Miztee222: I would post it here but the file is huge and I had trouble getting the format right. Also, I don't have the PM feature yet. Just ask to e-mail one of the advisors, I think you'll get a response pretty quickly.

I just want to say, "Good Luck" to anyone applying for Spring '10. I know what you are going through as I did this journey a year ago. I am now in my third semester and I feel very grateful that I am in this position. There are going to be some bumps along the way but you will make some great friends to share all your joys and pain. The program is not a cake walk but you will learn so much. I am completely amazed as to what I have learned and what can do now. As you go through your journey in this program, just remember to take a step back and look at the big picture. Where you were, where you are and where you are going to be. This will help with the stress and like I said the friends you make will be invaluable. Good luck all! :D

Marionette: Thanks, I spoke to the advisor and got the info. Take care.

Have they spread the word to prospective applicants yet that the last class being admitted is the Spring 2010 class?

I dont think they have informed anyone except those that are already enrolled. I applied for Spring 2010 and I just found out last night from my friend that is in the program.

Have they spread the word to prospective applicants yet that the last class being admitted is the Spring 2010 class?

I heard about this! What's going on? I heard its due to the economy...what did they tell the current students?

By the way...my entire class is passing the NCLEX! I haven't heard of anyone failing yet and a lot of people have taken it so far. This says a lot about the education you are receiving...you should be excited! :D

Have any other Spring 2010 applicants gotten an email today? I just got one and it referred to me as an "admitted applicant". I just wanted to know if everyone that applied got this letter or if it means something that they said I was admitted. Its seems a little too early for them to have made a decision. Here is what the email said:

"As an admitted applicant preparing to begin the OU College of Nursing ABSN program in the Spring 2010 cohort, we want to assure you that we look forward to providing your nursing education through the 14-month ABSN program. However, we are saddened to also notify you that your cohort, Spring 2010, will represent the OU College of Nursing's last admitted class in California.

You are probably aware that the economy, while recovering, continues to create pressures for public and private organizations. As such, although we are very pleased with the success of our educational programs in California, it has become necessary for us to tighten our belts, and begin to downsize by not admitting a California cohort after Spring 2010. This decision will enable us to bring our program operations in California to an orderly conclusion as your cohort completes the 14-month ABSN program.

Over the coming months, as you participate in the ABSN program of study, our focus will be on your success. Although resources dictate that we must conclude our California program next year (2011) we are very committed to ensuring the quality of your educational experience. Our goal is to make the process of ABSN program completion as simple as possible for you as a student. To that end, when you are contacted for your individual advisement session to discuss your progression and completion of the program, please schedule the time with your counselor promptly.

We will do our best to ensure that the process of transitioning our operations and closing the San Diego program will have little to no effect on your educational experience. Please bring your questions to the advisement session with your student services counselor. We will continue to share relevant updates with you as needed. We look forward to your successful studies in the ABSN program and on completion of your degree welcoming you into the ranks of OU College of Nursing Alumni."
