University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

thank you everyone

When I applied for the program, all my classes were completed...

I took micro and lab at ccconline ...excelent ...about $1000 plus lab...expensive

I already took CPR class 2-3 weeks ago and going for my shots this week...I know they will tell us everything at the open house

I wonder when orientation is...

can you please tell me where the labs take place?

and also clinicals?

thank you for all your help

Labs are on campus in the skills lab. Your first semester you will be in lab twice a week- once for clinical skills lab and once for health assessment.

Clinicals can be at Sharp memorial, grossmont, chula vista, or coronado. I think that the only time you won't be in a Sharp facility would be for the peds rotation in 3rd semester. You probably won't get your clinical assignments and locations until close to the first week of school so be prepared for that. It can be frustrating not knowing exactly what your schedule will be, but they try to get it out as soon as they can. You'll get the rest of your schedule as far as testing and labs during orientation. We also found out who was in our clinical group at orientation, just not the dates and times.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

thank you ...you are always so helpful...

the campus is at that new location they have ?

do you mind telling me what insurance did you purchase for the school?

one silly question: lol what shoes did you buy?

did you get a PDA ? do you think it is necessary? I am thinking to get a blackberry and use it as a phone as well...

how much time did you feel you needed to spend studying for your classes???

as you can see I have plenty of questions...I have 2 little kids and I am trying to organize myself as much as possible...I guess it is the unknown that kills me :)

thanks

No problem, I had a lot of questions too. The campus is the new one off of Aero Drive. I'm assuming that is where you will also be for your open house if you haven't seen it yet. There will be a representative from Ace uniforms there with scrubs, shoes, stethoscopes, etc. Definitely order the scrubs from them, but you probably want to shop around for the stethoscope and shoes. I was kinda annoyed becuase I was super excited and they talked me into getting a stethoscope there, but I ended up ordering a better one online for a better price. I was happy with the shoes that I purchased from them. They are sketchers work shoes (the shoes have to be all white). Some people prefer the Dansko (I think that is how you spell it) clog shoes and I've heard that they are really comfortable.

As far as a PDA goes, I don't think that it is necessary at all. No one I know really uses one. I'm sure it would be handy to look up drugs and things, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one. There are so many expenses being in nursing school and that is one that you can live without in my opinion.

Studying... it all depends on how well you learn and are able to comprehend the material. For first semester I always took one full day off. On the other days I would take breaks, but maybe spent a total of 5 hours on school a day outside of skills labs and clinicals. I was very happy with my grades, but know if I had put in a few more hours I could have had all A's. I think it is different for everyone though, so be prepared for a period of trial and error at the beginning.

For insurance, I went with Aetna. I just went to ehealthinsurance.com and compared plans. I know a lot of people who went through blue cross or blue shield, which are a little bit more affordable. Again, I think it will depend on if you just need basic coverage or if you need something a little bit more comprehensive. There are tons of plans out there though!

I think I answered all of your questions! Let me know if there are any more.

thank you once again ...you are the right person to answer my question...very detailed I love it hehehe!!!!

what stethoscope did you buy? I want a good one ...I want to make sure I hear things hahaha...I was reading about Littman cardio III or something like this...

do you have any tips/advices about the program? anything you wished you have known when you started?

should i purchase the insurance now? or wait for the open house?

did you purchase the electronic books?

I guess I am just nervous :)...I just want to know everything now lol

thank you again

Hi everyone,

Congrats to all who got accepted for this coming Fall. I was chosen as an alternate and have a couple of questions. Just wondering if anyone who was an alternate in the summer application cycle and actually got in the same term? Or if anyone who was an alternate last application cycle, reapply for this fall term and got accepted or didn't get accepted the second time around. I am just curious to see what the chance of me getting in this Fall term. I'm trying to remain hopeful. =)

Thanks.

Hi,

I was not an alternate but a good friend of mine was (this was fall start 08). They started the same semester. In our cohort, a few people who got accepted decided not to enter the program after the open house/orientation. I think that they realized that the program was not for them. Keep your fingers crossed!

Specializes in NICU.

I'm in too!!! I'm so excited :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone at orientation...btw does anyone know when that will be?
