Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you go to the open house? I think that is where most of us initally found out our status. Sorry to hear that you are an alternate, I was an alternate last time around. There is still a good chance though. When I spoke to someone with the program last time she told me that a lot of alternates have been accepted in the past! Good luck!

Is anyone planning to buy the book package? I'm still undecided... I wonder how much we could really save by purchasing them on our own.

Hi there - how did the book situation work out for you? Are you using the hard copy books a lot? I am thinking of perhaps sharing it with someone else, and I wanted to make sure that that is something that can be done. What do you think?

I looked into purchasing the books on my own. For all new books on Amazon.com, it comes out to about $700. For a combination on new/used. It would cost $400-500. Considering the book package is $1080, it's a substantial savings. I have to say I was really hesitant to spend the extra money on the book package when I could save at least %50. I finally ended up ordering the book package. You can't buy the e-books anywhere else and I really felt this could be a disadvantage. The e-books are all searchable and could really help for tests/quizzes. You also could just carry a laptop to school instead of a bunch of books. It's not too late to get the book package. I just ordered mine this week. Call the main campus in Oklahoma to find out where to send you check and order form.

Hi all. I'm currently finishing my 2nd semester at the San Diego campus and I highly recommend buying the book package because like the above poster said, its easier to search for things when taking quizzes and its easier to put together study guides by just copying and pasting things onto a word document. I didn't buy the package but wish I had. Hope this helps.

I also suggest getting the book package. I can't tell you how convenient it is to copy/paste pictures, diagrams, text, etc. When you make up your own study guides.

Also, it is super easy to tote around your laptop to your study place and it makes it really easy when you are studying and want to look up something really fast without leafing through the books.

How is the work load? You still hanging in there? Starting to get pretty nervous. 2 kids, a husband, job, dirty dishes, laundry.... should I stop? Anyway, just wanted to check in and see how this semester has been treating you.

Get the book package if you can afford it. It is worth it because every minute of saved time adds up in this program!

Don't forget the first few weeks are the hardest. It does get easier and you get used to the disorganization (hold on tight for this one!) The main goal is to manage your time properly.

Looking back on it all, it wasn't terrible. And I survived! :) So that's a plus. deemalt is right, I was completely overwhelmed those first 3 weeks, just getting used to the schedule. And we hadn't even started clinicals yet. But once you get into the rhythm of it all, it starts to work itself out. You'll be able to handle it, no problem. :)

I'm sure by the 2nd week of next semester, I'll be wishing my workload was like it was in this semester. Sounds encouraging, right? ;)

I haven't been on here in a while, but I got in too! Just have to finish the prereqs. I thought it was pretty brutal of them having us line up to find out what our status was, but it was nice at least to not have to wait any longer. I hope we get a set date (not just a tentative one) for the orientation soon so any of us who need to make plans for January can do that! Thanks everyone for the advice about the book package. I wasn't going to get it but now I think I will.

Hi All,

I found out the orientation will be Jan 7,8 from around noon to 7:30 and that word would be sent to everyone. I signed up for the CPR at Sharp the eves of 1/5,6.

See you at orientation! Is everyone caught up on vaccinations and other prep?

It will be both days from noon to 7:30? That is a long orientation! My student health form is taken care of.. just need to do the background check and drug screen. See you all at orientation.

Also, for any of you that are finishing up your first semester, do you honestly think without kids it is possible to work for about 10 hrs a week? I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about work yet! Luckily they are letting me take my time on the decision. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
