Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!
Not thinking mine was good news--I won't get a yah or nay for some time and I was already accepted to U of D Mercy and they start in May so I have to committ before I will even know from U of M. But that's OK--I have to believe I got in where I was meant to be and U of D is an awesome top notch school!! Good luck to the rest of you!
I haven't heard anything, I applied at the very end of August. So not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that i haven't heard yet. I do think it's good that I was able to submit this last semesters transcripts, since it will only help my application. Where does any status show up online?
I sent my transcripts which included Micro and Family Concepts (both 4.0's) a week or so again so I am not sure if they included that in their decision. I have biochem, patho, and pharma left which I was planning on taking this semester.
I had a 3.89 undergrad from CMU, a 3.67 from Wayne State MBA degree. I have had 4.0's in all my science pre-req's thus far. I thought I had great heartfelt essays--I had Hodgkin's and was treated at Mott's when I was a teenager and I shared that experience and how I always have had a love for medicine. I wonder if it hurt me to have mentioned having children--maybe they feel I will be too busy to be able to handle their program?? I honestly am not sure why I was waitlisted--I don't have any medical experience so that could be why? :0(
JBK, seems like you have what it takes, and I doubt it hurt you to have kids. It should not be a factor. Now, if you said you planned on continuing to work full time, then maybe, but not just having kids to raise. I'm in the same boat as you' all 4.0 in al my prereqs so far, had a 3.6 Masters from U of M, wrote what I thought were great essays, and have a couple decades of non profit work under my belt, as well as am currently volunteering at UM hospital. So I don't know what I could do to make my case any better. I submitted my Fall 09 transcript last week.
I don't understand the "waitlist", I thought people were put on a waitlist after all the spots were full. If that were the case, then it seems like everyone would have heard one way or another by now.
Hey all...So I'm pretty sure I read every single post ever written in this thread lol and I need some advice. I was also recently waitlisted for U of M (not sure why) and I still have one pre-req to complete. The email that was sent suggested that I complete that pre-req ASAP, meaning this semester, but I am already trying to complete my undergrad degree this semester to do be done in may. My original plan was to complete that pre-req in the summer if I were accepted to U of M, but after reading that email about being waitlisted, it seems as though I should get going on it this semester, meaning I would have a lot of credits on top of working and volunteering.
Does anyone have any advice if I should take it now or in the summer? Do you really think it would help me get off the waitlist?
Thank you!!!

It might be because you haven't graduated yet. Somewhere one the website it says they want you to be out of school for a year or two first. I don't think that's etched in stone; I'm pretty sure I've heard of a recent grad applying and getting in but I think she had graduated the previous May and applied the following fall. So by the time she started, she was out of school for over a year... I think that's how it happened. My point being, it might be because you're not finished with your undergrad and they're showing preference to those of us who have been out of school for a while and had a chance to put our degrees to use. I could see it being a possibility with the rise in application numbers.
As for them telling you to complete that ASAP, it's probably because you ARE on the waitlist - that means you have a chance at starting in the fall. They probably just want you to finish ASAP so you'll be ready for the fall and we know (because I have followed this thread almost from the start) thaget they review all of the waitlist candidates again as spots become available. If you get that class done next semester, it MIGHT give you the edge on everyone else. But my advice would be to focus on your degree first. Hope that helps!
