University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I know people who applied in August last year who were waitlisted and I know of another person who had only one or two prereqs done and applied in January and was accepted. U of M wants someone who is passionate about healthcare and it's easy to see that in the essays if they're written correctly. I wouldn't get caught up in misinformation and deadlines. What they're looking for in the application is all spelled out on the website- they know what they're looking for in a match. The best we can do is pour our heart and soul into our applications and hope for the best.

I went to the information meeting and that's what they told us: apply as early as possible as they fill spots as applications come in(based on if qualifications are met, etc). I hope I am wrong and they have many spots available but I do recommend you read the forum from last year. That is not misinformation but factual data from people who applied. I know a few who did so unless they changed something.....what they told me and what U of M told me are one in the same.

Of course they say to apply as early as possible... otherwise no one would apply until the week before the deadline!...but if you call them panicked in September like I did.... because I could've applied then but it would've been rushed, or I could wait until now and have spent far more time on the application but all would be lost if the spots would be gone so I called and asked for some honest advice. I lucked out and ended up speaking with someone higher than the student/secretary level; She chuckled a little and said anything submitted before the end of the year has a good chance; any time after that is pushing it.

If you go back to last year's posts, people were calling in October and November wondering about their application and were being told that the applications were just being looked at, which is exactly what I was told when I called in September about when to submit my application. I can assure you, if you submit an application today and get denied, it's not for a lack of spots. Rolling admissions does result in fewer spots as time goes on, but U of M knows what they're doing; you just have to have faith in them.

I managed to get accepted to LSA as a transfer student my Junior year (they don't typically take transfers past sophomore year) with a 2.8 from CMU. What got me in? My essays and someone on the admissions committee with a big heart. Have faith, my friend. :)

O.K. thanks musicians wife. I hope you are right and they will have plenty of spots available. This may explain why people apply early only to have to wait a long time for a decision. Possibly U of M is not even looking at the applications closely until January. Possibly the lady at the informational meeting was mistaken or they changed their policy. I just know for at least last year, many people waited 4 or 5 months for a decision. Maybe they will improve this year. I don't think having prospective students wait that long is right but its not my call - just my opinion. Since you applied now, what did they tell you about when a decision will be made??

I stopped by the Nursing School today to see what the status was, ans all they could tell me is that they are currently reviewing applications. I just hope we do find out before too far into next semester, because it will have an impact on classes that we take, at least for some of us. Congrats on getting your application in Musician's wife . . . I heard that the admissions office is open to bribes of brownies and pumpkin bread :-)

Oh if only... lol Our dear friend wannabenurse told us she knew people who heard in December last year, I think; maybe you remember? I haven't heard of anyone hearing sooner than January. :(

WSG - I just got a generic email saying my app was submitted; it looks like they send the same one out to anyone who applies to any program.

I was in last year's group of applicants. I submitted my completed application at the end of October, and was notified of acceptance in late January.

I hope we find out by the end of January!! I can hardly stand waiting but they are better than some as at WSU you don't find out till after interviews in June (for Sept start)!!! I poured my heart out in my essays so I hope that I touched those reviewing my essays. Good luck to all and when you find out post here ASAP!!

Hmmm...so I am still checking my application daily to see if I have been accepted lol. How pathetic is that?? haha. Anyway, while we are all awaiting a reply from U of M, can someone that was accepted in last year's program give us any insight on what we should expect? It seems like everyone ditched the thread once they found out they were accepted.

that would be nice to get some insider "insight"--they have a group on facebook but it doesn't look like they are on much as someone asked them what to expect back in Nov and I never saw a reply unless they privately messaged them.

is that where we will see a yah or nah first on the website/app status or via mail??

Judging from the previous year its seems that the website would be the first source of information regarding your status
