University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I don't know anything about JCC. Someone on here told me to take Pharm there since they didn't require anything but being a guest student, hmmm! Are you going to take Pharm next semester??

I really hope we find out this year!!! Where are else r u applying?

Specializes in ICU.

I've already taken Pharm at LCC.

I am applying/have applied to: UM-Flint basic BSN, UM-Flint Accelerated BSN, LCC traditional RN and accelerated RN, U of M-Ann Arbor accelerated, MSU-accelerated, GVSU traditional (their accelerated is on hiatus, possibly JCC and possibly University of Evansville in Indiana.

I don't have a very high cum GPA from my previous degree, but it was in Kinesiology and I think that it was a much more challenging degree than some others may have had. I have brought my cum up by taking the prereqs for various colleges, but I honestly just need to get in SOMEWHERE b/c I don't think I can take anymore prereqs. lol. I also have a lot of health care experience. So, I'm hoping that that will set me apart. We will see.

Where are you applying to?

Good luck!

At least you have healthcare experience as I am lacking in any true such care. I am also applying to U of D, WSU, and EMU. I have a very high undergrad and very good grad school gpa and so far have gotten 4.0's in pre-req's but at community colleges. I like that at U of M you do the essays as they really adds a more personal side to oneself aside from GPA.

Hope we hear soon!

Just found out that Henry Ford CC has Pharm and NO pre-req's and don't have to be in nursing program. All I did was apply on-line to get into HFCC and just went and registered today for Pharm on-line!!

Any updates???

I bet it will be 4 month wait for most. Read last years posts - I decided not to apply to U of M. I was tired of the misinformation(and had bad feelings about the program) but good luck to everyone else who is still applying and waiting.

Specializes in Geriatrics, dementia, hospice.

Hi there!

Please double-check but, I don't believe HFCC's pharmacology course is transferable to UofM (or anywhere, really)! Pharmacology, pathophysiology, and (sometimes) nutrition do not transfer very well among institutions.

Best wishes in your future nursing career!

U of M redid the course equivalency guide and now Henry Ford CC shows Pharmacology as being transferable to U of M it is AH 120. I am only taking it for U of M as none of the other 2nd degree require it as pre-req and if I have to retake it elsewhere barring I don't get into U of M that will be fine. I suggest everyone checking out the new guide as it is now an Microsoft file.

Hoping we hear back in January!!

Specializes in Mechanical Circulatory Support.

Well I'm officially at the mercy of the U of M admissions committee... Application submitted and the weight has been lifted! I feel good. :)

I wonder when we will all know if we got admitted to the accelerated program. It feels like I applied so long ago. I'm sure they will give us a response by mid-January (I hope)

Yes. It will be January/February. That is why I didn't mind waiting this long to submit... I did a lot this semester that I was able to include. It feels so good to have that done. I am refreshed for finals now.

U of M does rolling admission so the earlier you apply, the better. Applications were accepted in August!!!!I would not be surprised if most if not all spots are taken. Look at last years thread. i know people who were waitlisted because they got their applications in later than most. I don't know why, but U of M takes longer than most - much longer. Most schools will let you know in 2-8 weeks. Not U of M. Good luck to all of you
