University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

You can take patho online at WCC.....once you show that you've been admitted into UM, you can get permission to take pharm at WCC....you can also take pharm online at JCC without any permissions....just need to apply to school and sign up.

WannaBe, I just found this thread and I'm wondering... did you get in??!!

And do you think it's dumb to apply to UofM if haven't taken pharm yet?

I didn't get in, I got into OU's accelerated program, EMU's accelerated program, JCC, WCC, and wait listed at UM. So I got kinda close, lol :p

I just started at EMU this week.

Don't take pharm unless you get in, most other nursing schools won't transfer it in if you get in somewhere else. Don't waste your time and money. Why go through it twice? I got EMU to take my stuff after a lengthy process, but there's no guarantee a place like them will take it next year.

I am taking patho on line thru Wayne County CC and as far as Pharma goes I would talk to Washtenaw as they will usually let you in there. I talked to one of the science profs there and he said so.

Wannabe,

Can you tell me more about Eastern as I am planning to apply there too along with U of M, WSU, and U of D.

Also, if you don't mind me asking what was your GPA and background? Do you have an tips for U of M--though I already applied a few weeks ago.

I'm sorry to report that there is absolutely no way to get into Pharm at WCC unless you're a part of the nursing program or have a conditional letter of acceptance. No exceptions. There were spots avalable on the first day of classes and the instructor of the class said she'd love to have me... the person in charge of giving out overrides, and there's only one, refused it. Not just for me... Numerous people. So I joined the online class at JCC and it's going well. Send me a PM and I can give you more info and names if you'd still like to try... it never hurts to try and who knows... if they get bugged by enough of us maybe they'll finally let us in. :)

Thanks for the info--I will look into JCC as well for the on-line class which I would actually prefer. Can you send me some info on the class--I can't PM as I don't think I have enough postings or something????

Oh yeah... I forgot. I don't think I have enough posts, either. Lame. Well... there's a form you have to print from Blackboard from WCC's end (I think I saw that you are attending WCC right now)... and one that you can call and have JCC send you their form or you can supposedly find it on their website. Their website seems confusing to me. You will also need to send a copy of your unofficial transcripts and a copy of your drivers license for tuition reasons.

The class isn't bad... a little confusing to get started but once you get your feet wet the class is pretty easy to keep up with. There are tutorials to print out every week to read, a practice quiz, and a discussion group and that's about it. There are only two exams; the midterm and the final, but they must be taken at JCC or you have to pay for WCC to proctor the exam. I heard it's about $30 per test but I haven't personally looked into that just yet. So far it seems kind of pointless to buy the book because we haven't needed it, but it's not a bad idea to have a nursing pharm book on hand anyway. and it's only the third week of class so who knows. :)

I'm sorry.... there are three tests to be proctored because there's a midterm math test that goes along with the actual midterm. If you took the dosage calculations class at WCC (I think it was called math for healthcare or something) it's the same as the final for that class.... not difficult math at all. Just conversions and knowing that you can read a label and follow directions.

To those of you wanting to take pharm, there is an online pharmacology course offered at Lansing Community College. I believe it is NUR300 and you do not have to be part of the nursing program to take it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!! I will check this out too!! I have my stuff ready for Jackson CC. Appreciate it.

Does anyone know if we might find out before Jan/Feb about 2010?

do you know if JCC has a waitlist for their nursing program? I heard that people who applied to UM last year for the early decision (before Nov.) did hear before February. I thought it was actually like mid/late Nov. or Dec. that they heard. I hope so!
