University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I would submit the syllabus for the course and see if they accept it. I have done so at other schools and to date, have yet to have one rejected. They will work with you - trust me. If its an equivalent class, they will likely take it. Don't just assume because the website says so or if its not listed, it will not be accepted.

Sounds like you guys had as much fun as me in A & P/ Loved the class. 50 % of our class failed out of 350 + students. The teacher sent us the excel sheet with grades and I couldn't believe it - but he has a well deserved reputation of flunking people who do not put in the work. Patho looks like A & P on steroids.

For EMU, you have to wait till your admitted to the program. I gave all of my syllabi to the second career coordinator and she gave my stuff to the professors who teach patho and pharm. So far they are taking my patho even though the website says it does not transfer. I'm still waiting on pharm, but the class isn't till winter anyway....so I haven't been bugging them about it.

Wannabeanurse,

So I don't even have to have those courses completed before the program starts, i.e Patho, Micro?? I was thinking that I couldn't get in unless I had them complete from a place that they approved----but these courses are part of the first semester then?? So you start in Aug/Sept and which courses are first?? And it is 16 months from Aug/Sept?? Can I apply now for 2010??

Dave,

I am taking patho on-line which will probably kill me but I had no room in my schedule to take it at night. I have 3 girls and I coach soccer so I prefer if I can this semester take day classes when the 2 older ones are in school too. I know once I am in an accelerated program I will be away from them a lot so I am trying to make my schedule more accomodating until then.

What are you taking this semester??

Hi,

Patho, Micro, etc are part of the program.....so first semester is patho, micro, nutrition, and health assessment. I got out of patho and micro. Pharm is second semester in their program. So yes, you do not need them to apply. You can start the application process now, there's quite a few hoops to jump through. The app isn't due till May 15th and the required prereqs need to be done by that date. You won't find out till June whether or not you're in. The decision for EMU and Wayne for me came around the same time. EMU's program is no longer 16 months, it's 18 months + a 2 month break. So it's more like 20 months. However, I'm barely in school for the first 4 months of the program. So the program is going to be more like 16 months for me and 14 months of school with the break. It's longer but it's where I got in. It's local for me too since I live in AA. I would wait till January to start the application process. Get it started in January and decide to go forward with it depending on what happens with UM. I found out I was wait listed beg of Feb for UM, so then I knew I need to do the EMU app all the way. I also started OU's app last January too and got in for May 2010.

gentle tos reminder:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

Thanks wannabe---I will get my courses in order for EMU and wait to hear back from U of M in Jan/Feb.

I feel like I am connected to all of you guys applying for the 2010 applicants. I just submitted my application, and had my transcripts forwarded and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I honestly am wishing all of you the best! I can sense the dedication that you all possess. I am praying to the Lord that everything works out because nursing is the only thing I want to do w/ my life. Just a question though, am I the only youngin' applying? lol I'm only 21 yrs old

I hear ya! I just hit "submit". Whew! Good luck to you all! Would love to see you all in the Fall of 2010! Don't know if you're the youngest, but I might be one of the oldest at 46.

^ That is amazing. I think it is never to late to get into this field.

I agree!! I just turned 36 :-)

HI guys!

I'm so glad I found this group.

I'm trying to take my prereqs to apply for UofMs ABSN but I can't figure out where to take Pathophys and Pharmacology. ?? At WSU, OCC and everywhere else I've checked, you have to be in the Nursing program at THEIR school to take either of them. Where did you take these classes??!!
