University of Miami Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

I am kind of early with this thread, but I am pretty excited about the possibility of starting nursing school in May! Anybody else out there considering UM's ABSN program for summer 15? Also, anybody that has gotten in the program if you don't mind sharing helpful information, please do! I will still have 3 outstanding pre-reqs that I am registered to take in Spring. My cum GPA & pre-req GPA without those last 3 classes will be a 3.3 for both. I think I have a fair chance, could be better! (and will be once I finish pre-reqs) But anyway, share your thoughts about this program if you are considering as well! & good luck :)

@ filmbuff. NursingCAS has lost my transcript MULTIPLE times. it's so frustrating since Miami isn't the only school I've applied to. i received an email about prereqs and haven't received cane link. contacted admissions person who said i should receive it shortly. i submitted my app in early Jan.

nursingCAS says that my app is verified, but didn't get a separate email regarding it being verified.

@filmbuff my most recent grades have not been verified either with nursingcas so that might not be holding you up at all. I dont know for sure but maybe it's just taking admissions some time to get the canelink done for everyone. I know how you feel, I waited for awhile and literally just got mine a little over a week ago. I think as long as you have everything done it will be fine and hopefully you will have access to canelink soon :).

So one of my letter of recommendation was accepted, but it hasn't been completed. It says it is in the verifying stage. Will my application still verify without the recommendation being completed?

Also, I'm nervous about the Chem I took and if it will transfer in. What Chem class did you guys take? I took organic chem with a lab.

Hi! I think that the verification process only accounts for the transcripts. In an e-mail I received a long time ago, they said:

"The verification process won't start until all of the transcripts have arrived, but we do continue to process transcripts even after a deadline. If you have questions about the program specifically and how they review transcripts, we recommend reaching out directly to that school."

So I don't think they need the recommendation letters to be completed necessarily. This makes sense since it's UM's job to read the letters, not NursingCAS. NursingCAS just has to make sure that your grades are correctly inputted and then they send all the info over to UM. So I think as long as your recommendation letter has been accepted, you should be fine! Maybe try to rush your recommender a bit? Haha

Also, when I called UM last semester to ask which chemistry classes they accept they told me that the class had to be introductory/general and non-organic, so I'm not sure orgo would count :( Maybe call the office and ask? Good luck!

@mariedianne1435 So glad I was able to help out :) and yes, I submitted my application on Jan 15 and was verified on Jan 29!

I'm from Florida but I went to school up at The University of Pennsylvania. After graduation I came back home, I missed it here too much! lol.

I am not from Florida! I live in Pittsburgh, Pa (Go Steelers!) but will be moving to the Miami area by May (hopefully this move will include going to school at the UM! Are you from Florida?

Hey Guys !

Im looking to apply to this progam for spring 2016. I'm trying to submit the general application to UM. However, when I go to under the transfer tab and click the link for application for Accelerated BSN nothing pops up. Can someone assist me with this please ?

@me10 you actually don't submit an app to UM directly. The app is through nursingCAS. If you go to the Accelerated BSN page on UM's website and click "apply now" it will direct you to where you apply. But I'm not sure that they've started accepting apps for 2016 yet.

I'm from Florida.. or at least a resident the last 4 years! But it's definitely my home now, and plan to stay post-nursing school! Also I just got all my transcripts verified today. Still awaiting my letter of recommendation though, but it should be hopefully this week. (Also for anyone wondering: yes, apparently they can verify your application without your letter in, it's just about getting all your transcripts in!) I'm excited they verified all my transcripts today! They started verifying Jan 20th or so, and finished today! Hoping to get the canelink soon! Good luck everyone!

Also to check your GPA once verified (saw someone asked) you look under Program Status, and there looks like a download file button next to the big bold words University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. If you click it, it's your entire application. They have a breakdown of all your GPAs based on subject and your cumulative. My GPA ended up being slightly higher than I originally though, so I have an overall GPA of 3.49 and science pre-req at 3.62. Wahoo! Hope that helps!

Although I am from Pittsburgh, Pa. I will be staying in South Florida after the program! I plan to start my nursing career in the area. My boyfriend is officially a resident of Florida now (originally from New York) and plans on staying there for a while due to his career. :)
