University of Miami ABSN Summer 2018

Published

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone else applying for the Accelerated BSN program at the University of Miami to start in May 2018? I am just finishing up my application now and hoping to submit it in a week or two. I'd like to connect to some others also applying!

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Hi @estefpf ! It's not a dumb question at all! Once you sign in on CaneLink just go to self service > student admission > application status. This should tell you if your application is complete or incomplete. Once it changes to "complete" we've been told that is when a decision has been made.

Thank you! Actually, it turns out that my account had quite a bit of issues that needed to be fixed by IT. They finished correcting my account this morning so now I'm able to see my student portal :)

I made a facebook group for this cohort if anybody is interested in joining!

good luck everyone

You should get your caneID via email within a weekish. From there you can access your application status! Good luck!

Hey guys. Has anyone got accepted recently or heard anything besides the ones who were accepted in the beginning of January? This wait...

Hi Everyone!

I submitted my application January 25th for Summer 2018 (deadline was Feb 1). I requested the Professional Transcript Entry service from NursingCas. I figured it was a no-brainer (entering in my own grades was taking so long and I was like hey why not have someone else do it if it's an option lol). But now I heard that it can take weeks for everything to verify.

I called UM and they said as long as you have submitted your application before the February 1 deadline (which I did), then you are fine. But it doesn't really make sense with the email they sent about the "2-week buffer" after February 1 to get everything in.

I'm reading on these message boards that for some people it took almost a month for everything from NursingCas transcript service to get verified?! Now I'm worried and a bit confused. Anyone have any experience with this? Does UM actually wait for everything to come in even if you submit by deadline?

Sorry for all the questiosn I'm just trying to get a direct answer :/

JMercedes2 did you have your transcripts already confirmed by NursingCas? I did the professional entry on January 25 and now they are saying it can take weeks to verify. Ugh!

Also, you get the Canelink once you submit your application. From there, you can check your application status. However, UM will not review your application once it says "complete."

Hope that helps!

I have a 2.89 pre-req GPA. Lots of healthcare experience.

Any chances of getting accepted?

I think you have a chance. I know they say minimum 3.0 GPA minimum, but the benefit about private schools is that they look at the applicant as a whole. If someone has slighly below the 3.0 but has great experience and a great essay, I'm sure they will consider. I can't say the same about public schools (UF, USF, FAU, etc). They are very set on numbers. And they don't care where you went to college. So basically someone who went to Harvard and got a 3.0GPA and another person went to some random state school and also got a 3.0 GPA, they think of both people as the same quality applicant. And yes, two admissions reps from public schols in FL actually said this to me lol I was pretty shocked bc some colleges are way more challenging than others and there's more to becomming a nurse than your undergraduate GPA!

yes my transcipts were all confirmed earlier this month. i got my canelink now. but just praying we hear back soon :) .. GOOD LUCK

Hi all, congrats to those who have been accepted already! I submitted my application on January 15th and my status has now been updated to "Complete" as of today. For those of you who have heard back, what was the turn around time from when your status changed "Complete" to when you got your admissions decision email? Thank you so much! Good luck to everyone!

Did you do the Professional Transcript Entry through NursingCas? I submitted my application to UM on Jan. 25 and got an email saying as long as you submit everything on or before Feb.1, they will give you a 2-week buffter to get everything in. I got my Cane link and my status is still incomplete. NursingCas said it can take up to a month to verify everything?! Now I'm concerned. Did you enter your transcripts by yourself or did you have NursingCas do it?

I called UM and they said "as long as you submitted your app to us by Feb. 1 you are fine." But that's inconsistent with what their previous email said about the "two-week buffer." I;'m so confused lol not sure what to do...
