University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?

U.S.A. Maryland

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that applied last fall that could tell us when they learned the fate of their application? I was just wondering how long we (Fall 2009 applicants) would have to wait until we hear back from the admissions office. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

Has anyone recieved anymore information about the beginning of the semester.... All I've recieved recently is the list of books and schedule and a bill.... I was told that we have a med calculations test the first day of class by a student who was there last semester.... Has anyone recieved anything about this?

I usually wear the Court Classics from Costco. They are cheap and comfortable.

I also wear Crocs - no holes though. The great thing about those is they are easy to clean.

Hope that helps.

for the Med Calc test at Shady Grove anyway they have decided to move the test to 3 weeks into the semester. Dont delay studying though if you have time - that will be 4 tests in total that week.

what should be studied for this med calc exam? Will this be something we're going to review first or is it just going to be sprung upon us?

I am curious to know if the school you are transferring from has anything to do with whether you get accepted into the SON or not. I have read on other posts that some people with 4.0 grade point averages have gotten denied because they came from a college that didn't have an articulation agreeement with UMD. Can you all post which college you came from and if you have gotten accepted or are currently attending the program? That kinda unnerved me because if I am busting my butt to keep my grades up and meet all the prereqs and requirements, that just because I came from the wrong school, I would be denied. Thanks!

I wouldnt put a lot of stock in that. We have students in our class from as far away as Alaska (no joke) and I am sure there was no articulation agreement there. GPA is only one factor of many.

If its like it was last semester you will NOT review it in class. We took our test the first day but yours is going to be pushed back to hell week (in my opinion) the week you will have your first tests in Pharmacology, Health Assessment, Validation #1, and Nursing Fundamentals and the MedCalc test taken together. There is a book Calculation of Medication Dosages by Boundy & Stockert that was recommended. The book is easy to follow and do on your own. Unfortunately MedCalc isnt something you learn once and then move on. I have to go back and review problems every time we take tests - to me its something you have to practice not memorize.

I just bought the study guide at the bookstore today when I was out there buying the last of my stuff and here is the info if you are going to look for it.

Calculation of Medication Dosages: Practical Strategies to Ensure Safety and Accuracy

It cost about $53, but I flipped through it real quick and it doesn't look that bad.... See everyone next week!!!!!!

I was looking at the cost of tuition. Its approximately $4000 a semester. Is that correct? Also about how much will you spend in books per semester? I'm just trying to get an estimate of total costs. I'm attending PGCC and anticipate completing all my prereqs by fall 2010. I know I have some time before I apply to SON but I like to plan ahead. Thanks for your input.

When all said and done with me I think I spent about $900 with books, supplies, and uniforms..... But I was able to get used books so it was cheaper.... Tuition is $4000 a semester for instate, but if you throw in fees and health insurance your looking around $5000 or alittle more......

i concur with JR. ive said it a million times on here...i got in with a 3.073. coming from loyola n.o. with a bachelors and a community college for pre-reqs.

btw those who are interested, the light rail trip was 40 minutes from my station (cromwell) to the nursing school door.

anyone else excited about the sweet new urec/wellness facility???

also, there is a book for med calc/dose that would probably be good to review.

speaking of books, ive done research...UMB bookstore is seriously overpriced. the only two (out of 30+) texts that are cheaper there than online (am***n) are the kozier bundle and lehne pharm. i am saving like 20-30% by buying elsewhere.

Speaking of overpriced, don't but their uniforms either. Just buy their patches and buy your own lab coat, khaki colored scrub pants, and white scrub tops. Just make sure the patch is on the left upper chest for the scrub top and left upper arm for the lab coat.

You will save id say 50%.
