University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?

Published

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that applied last fall that could tell us when they learned the fate of their application? I was just wondering how long we (Fall 2009 applicants) would have to wait until we hear back from the admissions office. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

You can also buy the uniforms at the UMB bookstore in baltimore I think. I was out there last week buying some of my books (pharm book won't be in till august and I didn't know what we needed for 405 because it wasn't in our letter) and I thought I saw some nursing uniforms. I haven't bought mine yet because of money reasons and there is no reason to get it this early. I spoke to multiple people about the scheduling issue and finally I got an answer. They said that they'll fix the problem at orientation and we'll probably follow a schedule like group 2 if you are in group 1. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer because from what I hear we're going to need it.

Hello everyone, im applying to the university of maryland school of nursing and i was wondering if anybody can give me an insight on what they require. I didn't do so good freshman year and ended with a 2.9 cumulative, so far i have only gotten A's on my science classes and have even taken more science classes than they require and also have A's in them, if i increase my gpa to at least a 3.5 or 3.7 for my sophmore year and if i get over a 70 on the NET and have good recommendations do you guys think i stand a pretty good chance? also i will be applying next year for the spring semester so i have enough time to complete my application....im so nervous so i need as many advice as possible...thanks for your help!

Anything we could offer in terms of whether you gain admissions or not would be pure speculation. You should just do your best, apply and let the chips fall where they may.

That being said, I'm sure a 3.5 would be competitive. NET is a breeze - very learnable test. Just get the study guide.

Agrippa thanks for your input

ccutie..... I think you have a good chance of getting in.... If your GPA is at a 3.5-3.7 that is pretty solid, but you said you had a 2.9 after your freshmen year of college. What did you get C's in? If it was history and other classes like that then I don't think you have anything to worry about. If your science GPA is a 4.0 I think your in great shape. Do the study guide for the NET, it wasn't that bad. I didn't do very well because I do bad on standardized test and rushed through it. Also, apply to different nursing schools. If you don't get into one you might get into others. Make sure you write essays that make you stand out from other students ( any volunteer work, emergency situations you have been in). Good luck and make sure to apply early because they have a tendency to lose things at Maryland. Hopefully I'll see you there in the spring.

Joe

Hey Joe since u got into the school, how would you say you stood out from the other students, and also were there any friends you applied with and didn't get in? if so, what were the reasons.

I spoke of alot experiences I have had being in emergency situations since I am an volunteer fire fighter/emt. I was also completely honest in my essay's about why I wanted to be a nurse. I told them that helping people wasn't the main reason I wanted to be a nurse. I explained what made me want to be a nurse and the areas I wanted to advance career in. Don't be all mushy mushy with them because they probably hear over and over that the reason people want to be a nurse is to help others (which I hope you should want to do, but that will only get you so far). Let them know what interest you and why you will be a better canidate then other people. I have met people who have been rejected because of grades, but eventually were accepted. It might be easier to get in the spring because they might have fewer applicants. Have you gone to an information session? They are helpful and give you some words of encouragement (and discouraging at times). Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions. I don't know much about how the classes go, I start in 4 weeks!!!!!!!!!

ccutie,

It's easy to be paranoid when you start on a journey....but don't be. I'm pretty sure my gpa was lower...I know a few people who got in w/ 3.0. You have a lot of options if you want to do nursing...and I mean a LOT. If your GPA is 3.5 you will most likely not have a problem w UMB or elsewhere. BTW-Howard CC has a great 1 year accelerated ADN...I wish I would have known about this program earlier.

I'm surprised there isn't a facebook group for our class yet.

How many people here are starting at the Baltimore campus in the fall or are going to the Baltimore campus?

Here.

Hey guys do you think having a D or Withdrawing from and retaking the class ruins your chances of getting into the school or do they overlook it with a good gpa, essays and recommendations?
