University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?

Published

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that applied last fall that could tell us when they learned the fate of their application? I was just wondering how long we (Fall 2009 applicants) would have to wait until we hear back from the admissions office. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

agrippa: im jealous of your bill! mine is with out of state tuition totaling around 13,000.

Well if it makes you feel better, I have tons of debt from my previous degree. See if you can get in state status next year. But from what I hear, I heard its pretty hard. They need to be convinced that you're not in MD for just school and that you plan on sticking around for a while.

AngelP where do you live? If you lived in maryland for over a year I believe you are considered for in state tuition

i just moved back to maryland after 24 yrs. it does indeed take one year (from issue date of state id/license) to attain 'in state' status. just got mine so i wont qualify til next year.

jd: howd you get all books and supplies for 900? i just got two books so far for 300. have an amazon order pending for 500, still dont have supplies and the damn 'clicker'.

still crossing my fingers and toes for the Nursing Scholarship program. awardees notified by september 30th. the wait is more grueling than waiting for the 'admit institution' news...

I bought everything at the bookstore....... For the nursing fundamentals class I bought the package with everything in it so it was cheaper.....

i got the package too.

anyone ever hear of chegg.com where you can rent texts for the semester? some of them are like 30$/free shipping.

hey all, i have a quick question for you....i have submitted all of my forms for my application and have gotten it all in, so my application is complete. however, on the surfs website it says

Application Status: Requirements Outstanding.

I called UMD and they told me that it was okay, but it still has me worried. I have not received a letter or anything saying my application is complete so I am still worried. Anybody have any idea what this is or did this happen to you too?

I will probably call again sometime this week if it is still there. I want to make sure that everything is okay.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am in the same boat. Eml2142... does your application page say if they've recieved anything. Like what does the last couple of rows look like this..

Requirements

RequirementReceived Note

Application Fee

College Transcript

CV or Resume

Application Being Reviewed

Nurse Entrance Test

Reference Letter

Reference Letter

Statement of Goals/Objectives

Should I call in if my page has been like this... its all blank nothing is filled out in the Requirement Received boxes or the note boxes...I paid for my application fee with my credit card with the inital online application sent in.... and my mail-in parts of my application package was recieved 9 days ago at UMD? Or do you think they are just really slow in updating the SURFS website...

Thanks! please answer though :)

yeah mine does have the blanks next to everything filled in. usually with the date they received it and then the school/person it was from.

ex:

Transcript August 17 St. Mary's College of Md

But, the thing thats got me all worried is that I have that stinkin' Requirements Outstanding thing up there. Im probably worried about nothing considering I called them, but I just don't want to be told "Oh your application was incomplete" on September 1st.

I think I am gonna call on Tuesday.

June, let me know if you have any luck or figure anything out.

Thanks!

I would give them some time. They just finished last week doing our orientation so I know they are reaaally busy. So I would just wait and not get too anxious.

Oh my goodness yes-9 Days will not cut it for updating their online sources. They are getting more and more applicants with every semester and with a limited number of staff they have to sort through a ton. Not to mention with school starting they have to get things together for incoming students and everyone else.

The deadline of September 1st is actually kind of loosely termed. They want everything sent in by September 1st. Now if they don't have something like a letter of recommendation or a transcript, the admissions office will send you a letter asking for it. And they do lose things after the first- it doesn't mean you won't be reviewed or anything.

Make sure you have your overall application sent in by the 1st- you probably filled it out online with a statement of goals and objectives and you'll be okay. I applied for the spring semester last year and I saw the same thing- none of my documents were in until the few weeks before they let me know I was accepted. Which by the way- was sometime in October. You'll be okay for now.

PS: Good luck to all the incoming students. I saw you guys touring open lab and it gave me flashbacks :D

How do they calculate your overall GPA? is it only in the 59 needed pre-reqs that is your 'overall GPA'? Or is it every college class you have ever taken? Sorry, I understand what the science GPA is... its AP1, AP2, Chem, Micro and maybe Stats too? But WHAT does overall GPA mean. overal GPA for prereqs or overall GPA from college EVER? Or the GPA that can be calculated by adding up what is on the pre req fill-in page for the mail in application part....thanks!
