University of Florida Accelerated BSN Program Fall 2011

U.S.A. Florida

Published

If you're applying to the University of Florida's Fall 2011 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville, this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!

For starters, here is the program's website:

http://www.nursing.ufl.edu/prospective/prospective_accelerated_bsn_home.shtml

or

http://con.ufl.edu/prospective/prosp...bsn_home.shtml

(I am not sure what the difference is, but in case they are on different servers I will post them both. This way you potentially have two servers to use in case one of them is temporarily down.)

Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!

I actually "appropriated" almost everything above from the previous years discussion board. I would at least like to give credit to the original author. The thread last year has been very helpful for me. It contained a lot of quality content and postings. It even included posts from members of the UF College of Nursing administration as well current, former, and prospective students. I hope that this thread will be just as helpful. I look forward to discussing various topics with all of you, such as the inevitable "what is your G.P.A and GRE score." I also hope that one day soon I will be able to meet with all of you face to face as newly admitted students for the Fall 2011 term. Good Luck!!!

In good faith I will say that my undergraduate GPA was very low, around a 2.0, but I earned a 3.5 GPA at FGCU for my MBA in Finance. It was a 4.0 until my final two semesters when I experienced an unfortunate series of losses of friends and loved ones. I have taken a few other courses at the undergraduate level since my bachelors degree and earned either an A or a rare B+. I am currently retaking all of my prerequisites because I took them, originally, over seven years ago. I earned a B+ in Nutrition last semester, and I expect close to straight A's this semester even though I am taking BSC 2085, BSC 2086, MCB 2010, DEP 2004, and STA 2023 all in the same semester. I am also working forty hours per week as a Financial Aid Officer at City College and teaching in the College of Business part time at the same institution. No, I would not recommend this to anyone else or to myself if I could do it over again. I took the GRE at the beginning of this month, but I was not pleased with my results. I scored a 1250, and I plan on retaking it in the beginning of December. I scored a 1380 on the SAT and a 690 on the GMAT. I was very tired, and I think I will do significantly better the next time. As I said before, I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding your backgrounds and any questions you might have.

I am so happy to hear that you arw doing better. I will definitely keep you in my prayers!!

As far as your nursing application, I think your fine. I was told that they look at all of the applications after the deadline. So, I believe that as long as you submit it by March 1st, you're ok. Good Luck!!

Well, today was the deadline:-) Does anyone know when we the decisions will be made and we will be notified? I tried to call and email, but haven't had any feedback. If anyone has heard, please post. Thank you!!

Ok so the deadline is finally passed and now its waiting time... I am anxiously waiting to hear about when we will be notified about the decisions!!! Well hopefully we will know soon...Good luck to everyone =)

Hey all,

I just joined this site and so far I have found it very helpful. I just applied for the accelerated session starting in Fall 2011. I will be completing my undergrad studies here at UF. Does anyone know if they give preference to UF students? My overall gpa is a 3.34 but my last 60 credits gpa is much higher. I got As and Bs in my prereqs and I got a 1300 on my GRE. I really dont know how my chances are; I have gotten rejected from 2 FL schools so far so I am really nervous. If anyone hears as to when we should find out our decision please let me know!!

Hi jbax,

From the sound of the last email, I believe that we will be hearing their decision as to the start date of the program very soon. If the program moves to a summer start, then I would think that we would probably know our status in March or early April. But, this is just a speculation. Good luck to you!!

I'm confused... the program might change back to a summer start date?

I haven't heard anything at all about it being switched back to a summer start date. I find that to be highly unlikely, but never say never.

Jane Doe 1, they sent out a survey to people who had filled out the personal information sheet online about switching to a summer date. Has anyone heard anything so far? I am just curious about when we should expect to hear back. I am extremely anxious.

I took that survey but was later informed that they are sticking to the Fall start. I am anxiously waiting too!

Anyone know who to call at the office here? I have emailed and left messages for people, no one is returning any of them :( I am a prospective applicant to their program for next year. Thanks!

dancing nurse,

You should speak to Kenneth Foote. If you cant reach him directly try emailing him!

Hi dancingnurse13.

I'm sorry that you've been having a hard time getting throu to someone. If you would like to contact me directly you may do so and I would be more htn ahappy to speak with you. Here's my contact ifno: http://con.ufl.edu/staff_details.aspx?ID=22

Hi All,

Yes, the program will still be a Fall start date. But, I still haven't heard when we will be notified. I am guessing nobody has heard anything?? I have asked, but I haven't gotten a response. I think the University was on Spring Break last week, so that caused a week's delay. But, I know everyone who is on this thread is as anxious as I am!! If someone has any info, PLEASE post it on here...Thank you!!
