University of Calgary, January 2021

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I am planning to apply to the degree holder route for nursing at the University of Calgary for January 2021. I found this site by reading through the University of Calgary, January 2020 forum and thought it would be good to start one for this next years in take.

I am currently finishing my English prerequisite and my anatomy and physiology course at Athabasca. Last year it looked like the GPA cut off was a 3.6 and that most people over a 3.7 got accepted.

Damn I tried calculating and I got an estimate of 27K and this is without housing and meal plan included. Are schools in Calgary usually much more expensive than other places?

and if people don't mind sharing, how are you intending on funding your tuition?

Woah, is that for the whole year or just one term (4 courses)? And are you an international student? Mine was calculated to be around 3k per term.

Honestly I am planning on applying for student grants, student loans, and will also be applying for a professional line of credit with CIBC for nurses. I heard they have the best rate and I think its a good idea to apply just in case, but I am planning on just using student loans and whatever grants I can get first. I am also planning on working part time. I just can't decide how many hours I should work while going through the program. I was thinking 13 to 16 hours over two days but not too sure if this is doable or not...... anyone else planning on working part time through the program?

I’m going to check again . Are u degree holder?

edit: okay I recalculated and got $19,749.65. The final term is only course instead of four. This is without meal plans and housing included.

Sorry for the miscalculation!

has anyone else here estimated their total fees?

I just got the green check! A few questions if anyone can help me with

1. Do I get the acceptance package after I pay the deposit fee?

2. Is there housing for nursing students? And if yes, how is it at University of Calgary? is it worth it?

3. Is there a facebook group for this term?

Thanks in advance!

Congrats @nursing_c! You applied for the Transfer route? So you are a UofC student from a different faculty?

Knowing you got in with a 3.7 GPA which is close to mine (3.71) is even more stressful with the waiting.

External transfer out of province! Are you a transfer student as well?

Hey guys here is the handbook available on UofC website:

https://nursing.ucalgary.ca/sites/default/files/teams/5/BN Student Handbook F20-W21.Final_.pdf

It mentions all our courses, CPR, N95 mask fit, Police screening, uniforms and even extra costs like books and supplies. Hope this helps some of you out.

Hello All! I just recently found this forum ?

I was wondering if anyone knows the likeliness of getting acceptance into the program after being placed on the waiting list :S

Yeah, I'm waitlisted (after-degree). My documents were received close to the deadline at around Sept. 12.
