I got an offer from UBC today!

Very excited and nervous at the same time. I applied to UBC, UVIC, and UNBC. I wasn't granted admission into UNBC last week and still awaiting UVIC. The wait is so difficult so I thought I would share my experience and application for those interested.

I graduated from UVIC in 2018 and worked primarily as an Oncology nurse on an Acute Oncology and Medicine unit for 6 years! Chemotherapy certified. Also worked on/off on a Medicine/Behavioural unit with mainly a geriatric population, so lots of experience with acute delirium and dementia. In 2023, I began Travel Nursing to diversify my resume. I worked on a Bone Marrow Transplant unit and Oncology ward in Saskatoon for approx a year.

The references I used were a Physician I worked closely with for 3 years, My CNE of 2 years, and PCC/Charge of 6 years. Their reference letters were strong in using concrete and specific examples of the care I've provided, scenarios, and what the patient outcomes were. They highlighted my personal attributes and shared discussions we've had about my intentions as an NP.

My Letter of Intent focused on my experiences in Oncology, working with patients undergoing dual modality treatments who are often unstable and rapidly deteriorating. I also personified the patient experience and what that means to me as I've had health issues myself that could have been avoided if primary care providers were more readily accessible.

Hope this helps and good luck to everyone!

Hey all, for anyone who applied to UNBC- if you have received an offer of acceptance you'll have seen it's now one unified 8 semester program, considered "full time", instead of the FT/PT options available when we applied. I decided to look today at tuition costs and FT student costs for MSN are nearly double those of PT student costs ($2,308.94 vs $1,212.19 per semester).

I know for some this may not affect your decision but for me it certainly is making me think twice before going forward! It would mean paying FT student costs for a longer period of time. I have emailed them to see if they can confirm the semester costs for the new program format so will update if people are interested. Makes me a little more curious to hear back from UVIC, which was my second choice... :)

I got waitlisted for UBC today and wondering if anyone knows how the waitlist works? Have others got into the program in the past while on the waitlist.

Has anyone heard anything from TRU? Even rejections? Thank you !

I noticed in the forum from last year someone got a waitlisted letter from UBC March 29.. so there is hope!

Hi all,

Thank you for starting this forum. I've read some helpful insights regarding the MN-NP programs in BC.

I applied to the 2024 Sep intake at UBC for the first time, and I just received an email last week stating that I've been placed on the waitlist. I've connected with some peers, and read several online reviews and forums and learned that likely waitlisted students will be accepted but I cannot be certain. The faculty did inform me that students placed on the waitlist are strategically placed depending on how many they can successfully move into the program. While having a look at the UBC site, it seems that in 2022, 161 people applied, 34 were given an offer, and then 31 were new registrants (I assume waitlisted individuals). Total enrolment has been 60 + since 2019

I've been an RN for 5 years now. My background includes renal, medicine, surgical, organ transplant, international travel nursing, palliative care, and case management. I know the program is really competitive, and I imagine they're wanting well rounded/experienced RNs. Although having a speciality is great, a variety of specialities looks great too.

I've heard that UBC is not doing interviews this year for the MN-NP Program...has anyone heard the same? Does anyone have any preparation tips for NP school?

Good luck to everyone who has applied!

Hi!

I also have been waitlisted for UBC. Your above information gives me hope that they may go down the waitlist. I was told that 60 seats have been offered already to applicants and depending on if anyone declines then they would look at the waitlisted applicants.
Any idea how many applicants on UBC waitlists?

In previous posts for this year, some that were accepted reported no interviews:)

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure there are only 30 seats per cohort. 60 would be total students in the NP Program at any given time across the two years. Did UBC say specifically they have offered 60 seats for this 2024 cohort?

No the email didn't specifically say for 2024 September intake. I assumed it waqs 60 for 2024 as it stated they have offered 60 seats when I asked regarding waitlist, perhaps she was referring to the whole NP Program but why say offered 60 seats if 30 should already be in the program?

Oh interesting. Maybe they doubled the program? I guess we'll find out 🤷‍♀️

Yes that is correct , no interviews for UBC this year confirmed by the Manager of student services.
