University of British Columbia (UBC) Nurse Practitioner Masters Program 2024 Applications
Sorry to go a bit off topic haha @IslanderEllie just wondering re: the final exam if you recall what reference information is provided for the questions, for example cutoff scores for t tests or F ratios etc. I tried asking the tutor who gave a pretty useless answer ("no reference tables are provided") and no one responds to the forum questions ? obviously cramming lots onto my cheat sheets but there's soooo many reference tables!

I'm facing the same decision, also living on the Island. Personally I really wanted the PT program to spread out the program requirements and not rush things. I was pretty disappointed to hear they are essentially doubling the cost of the UNBC program by classifying you as a FT student despite the program being spread out. So, paying FT tuition for a longer period, and also factoring in the cost of traveling north at least 3x over the course of the program (although you may have to travel for UVIC as well). I am leaning toward UVIC but mostly for financial/convenience reasons, I can't really speak to the course content. I think just like BSN programs, there are some very conflicting outsider/insider perspectives, national rankings don't seem to be based on criteria that really impact the student learning experience, you'll get out what you put in etc etc. If you're into rural practice UNBC probably has more to offer there. If you're staying in an urban island community maybe less of a difference. I am already almost done the stats course though so I don't really have to factor that in.

Hey all, for anyone who applied to UNBC- if you have received an offer of acceptance you'll have seen it's now one unified 8 semester program, considered "full time", instead of the FT/PT options available when we applied. I decided to look today at tuition costs and FT student costs for MSN are nearly double those of PT student costs ($2,308.94 vs $1,212.19 per semester). I know for some this may not affect your decision but for me it certainly is making me think twice before going forward! It would mean paying FT student costs for a longer period of time. I have emailed them to see if they can confirm the semester costs for the new program format so will update if people are interested. Makes me a little more curious to hear back from UVIC, which was my second choice... :)
