Hi everyone!
I figured I would start up a thread for those applying/planning to apply to the University of Alberta After Degree program for Fall 2017 admission.
My plan is to apply in January once I have started Medical Microbiology at MacEwan. I'm currently taking BIOL 235 (Anatomy and Physiology) through Athabasca University.
When is everyone else planning on sending in their application?
Good luck to everyone!!
Hey natti760,
I was also apprehensive towards this program from all of the posts about CBL where "students teach themselves everything and the professors do nothing". That is what I gathered before starting the school.
BUT I have not found that at all. There are lectures and we learn the same way. There is one class where it's a seminar class and we are presented with an example, say a patient has diabetes, and we discuss what we are going to do/teach to this patient as a nurse. I find it useful and it's more a discussion-based class. That is what I think previous classmates are referring to. It is just one seminar class and it's useful all the different aspects of nursing. We aren't tested on what others present.
Although I really don't like this class (Nursing theory) but it is useful for the future.
Hi there,
It's not bad. It's certainly doable, but there is a lot of information for each section of the course. It just means that each midterm tests you on a lot of information, and thus takes a long time to study for. Other than that, the structure of the course is good. The study guide very clearly lays out what you need to know. It's also just the study guide and the textbook, so you're not constantly flipping between multiple resources.
Hope that helps!

Awesome! It's hard not to get frightened by some of the posts on the Internet about the u alberta program. Do you do a lot of CBL and flipped classroom and that sort of alternative lecture style?
