This awful businessman has given $100 million to help New York-Presbyterian Hospital build a state-of-the-art ambulatory care center.
Most New Yorkers likely regard such a donation as a tremendous act of charity. Not the New York State Nurses Association, SEIU Local 1199, the New York State NAACP or the Working Families Party. On Saturday, they protested outside both the hospital and David Koch's apartment.
I understand that politics is jaded, and people are crazy and bitter. But this is absurd. If someone that I politically hated (im not really political but still) donated to 100million to my hospital id probably say something wild and crazy like "thank you" to them, instead of protesting them.
But I guess im just nuts
Sad that one of NYs largest nursing unions was protesting 100m that would be adding to their jobs and quality of healthcare provided.
You are free to dislike abortion and to choose not to complete one.
Not every American shares your Christian belief system which prohibits exercising of that right.
Many of us are concerned about the ongoing erosion of women's reproductive health rights in this country. We are concerned that legislators (generally older white men) are clamoring to make abortion unavailable in their geographic region for many poor women. Along with the disappearance of abortion clinics is the disappearance of clinics which provide reproductive health care to those very same women. Please review what is happening in Texas as example.
At the same time, the SCOTUS is deciding whether or not your employer may decide for you which birth control will be paid for by your health insurance. that is, apparently because it violates the religious beliefs of the company. (what church does your company attend?) Which personal thing will they get to decide for you next based upon their "religion" or faith system (does capitalism count as a religious or faith system)?
But again, how is THIS ambulatory care center preventing anyone from abortion? Or birth control? Is every health care operation supposed to take care of this? Do you expect an orthopedic surgeon's office to provide murder on demand too? I know it's a crazy thought, but maybe this huge donation of money to health care is a good thing, even if you don't care for their beliefs.

Did anyone on this thread intimate that an orthopedist or any other physician provide murder on demand? Perhaps you are simply trying to be inflammatory. Current US law does not equate abortion to murder, that is your personal opinion which is not shared by everyone.

Do you even live in Texas? Have you ever lived here? As a Texan I find this comment offensive and false. Before dispairaging Texas i suggest you live here a bit. You might just be a bit surprised how great of a State we really are. Furthermore our politicians here represent the will of the voters here in Texas.
About a quarter of state-funded family-planning clinics in Texas’s Lower Rio Grande Valley closed after funding was cut in 2011, forcing women to forgo breast exams, Pap smears and contraception, according to a report by an advocacy group.
Planned Parenthood, which had sued to block the restrictions, called the ruling "terrible" and said "safe and legal abortion will continue to be virtually impossible for thousands of Texas women to access."
"The latest restrictions in Texas will force women to have abortions later in pregnancy, if they are able to get to a doctor at all," Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Votes, said in a statement.
Some of the toughest restrictions in the U.S. on when, where and how women may obtain an abortion were approved last summer by the Republican-controlled Texas Legislature and Gov. Rick Perry.
At least 19 clinics have shut down since the new law was approved and the 5th Circuit allowed the provisions on hospital-admitting privileges and abortion-inducing pills to take effect, leaving around 24 still open to serve a population of 26 million Texans. More closures could happen after the additional restrictions are in place.
The provisions effectively shut down many abortion clinics in rural areas in Texas, a large state where hospitals are far removed from many clinics. The Texas Hospital Association, which represents more than 400 hospitals, called the restrictions unnecessary because women experiencing abortion complications already can go to a hospital emergency room and be treated.
I don't live in Texas, I live in the conservative Republican state of Alaska.
I am sorry that you are offended by the legislative efforts of your leadership, but don't blame me. I just read the news relative to women's health care and reproductive rights. It is one of my areas of professional interest.
So if your legislators are representing your will in these matters, so be it. I don't agree and I don't have to live there to have an opinion about what is happening.

Could it be that the new ambulatory care center would remove jobs from the hospital? And maybe the "string" that is attached to that money is that the jobs would be non union? If you think that is not possible research the unfair labor practice strike at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in CT last year.
