I'm beginning nursing school this September, and I just found out that we are not required to wear white scrubs for clinicals or labs. :lol2:

We can either wear business attire (no sneakers, jeans, midriff showing or sleeveless), or we can wear coloured scrubs of our choice (sneakers here are ok).

I am going to go for the scrubs as i assume business attire is more expensive. Why would i want to wash that every night after i have lab or clinicals, and reduce its life.

I'm going to get light pink, lilac and orange scrubs. im so happy, i thought id be stuck wearing white.

Also, do you girls wear any thing underneath. Im thinking of getting a few fitted 3/4 sleeved shirts, as the scrub sleeves are baggy, and im not too good at maintaining armpit hair. Dont want any1 catching a glance at it.

For class time we have to wear scrubs. But any color we want and it can be solid, prints or have "pictures" on them (Betty Boop, Dogs, cartoon characters etc). We can wear any closed toed shoe we want during class times. I went with matching top and bottom scrubs in "neutral" colors meaning, most hospitals etc use the color..ceil blue, OR green, etc.

Clinical we have to wear school issued Ceil Blue scrubs with our School Patch on it and a matching ceil blue lab coat..white sneakers/shoes.

I don't wear anything under my scrub top since I am always bouncing between freezing and sweating buckets. To have a shirt under my scrub would be inconvient when I was in my sweating buckets phase. I just make sure to always have my lab jacket with me. My tops are somewhat fitted so they don't have a gap at the neckline when I bend down.

You have to wear scrubs to class? Wow. We wear what we wore that day to class. We can wear anything to class since it's just class...like college. I couldn't imagine having a uniform for class.

Yup, scrubs to class. It wasn't always the case. At one time, not too long ago, you could wear whatever you wanted. But thanks to some with no common sense we can't anymore :madface: . They wore whatever..and quite a few came in with really inappropriate clothing on. Shirts cut to the belly button, shirts that only reached right below the bust line, Daisy duke shorts, flip flops, shirts with really nasty sayings on them or nasty pictures :uhoh3: ..you get the drift.

Scrubs are fine with me..I am much more comfortable in my scrubs than I am in a pair of jeans..more room in the belly area when I overeat at lunch etc :lol2:

eww id hate to wear scrubs to class.

lol you must live in a wild place for so many students to dress inappropriately.

we get to wear whatever to lectures.

I love wearing scrubs to class..like I said much more comfy than jeans..and much cheaper too.

In regards to the "wild place" I live in..that would be Connecticut. And the town the school is in is about as wild as Mayberry where Opie from The Andy Griffith Show grew up :lol2:

Its just that some don't get what's appropriate for school/work and whats appropriate at home.

I think White's are fine too. I also think it would be good to be able to tell the nurses from the tech from the housekeepers and I wouldn't mind wearing a formal uniform. I get to wear school colors and that is nice too, and worrying about see through scrubs and big ugly stains is one less thing on my list. Either way, I get to go to school and clinicals and that makes me happy. I just hope I do a good job!!!

We just ordered our uniforms at orientation the other night. White pants, navy blue polo shirt, and a white coat with the school emblem. The jacket is to be worn in clincals, so we will be white head to toe (obviously white shoes are required) except a blue collar sticking out. I actually don't have a problem with the white, since it does look professional. However, the pant styles they offered, ugh... super tight elastic waist and tapered legs :eek: . That is not flattering on any body type. They did offer three different pant styles, same company, same bad waist. One style had cargo pockets so I went with that. If I have to wear ugly, uncomfortable pants, I might as well choose the ones that are the most functional. I think we all know nursing is not about the fashion :nuke:.

I'm so jealous that some of you can wear colored scrubs!

We have to wear white scrub pants.. seriously, asking women to wear white pants is just cruel. I'm going to be so self-conscious!

I wish we could wear other colors..anything but white! Our tops are navy blue. Wish the bottoms were navy, too.

Yeah, if my school told me i had to wear a bathing suit to clinicals i would. :) Anything to become a nurse.

Lol, but it is nicer to get to go to nursing school, and wear the scrubs you want.

I know I'm in the minority but I think students should have a uniform. We wear a white uniform. It is very clear that we are not nurses. Now somebody may not know exactly what we are until we tell them but I think it's clear we are some type of student. When we walk into a room with a pt who had a student before they know exactly what we are.

I honestly believe that hospitals need to start differentiating nurses from nurse aids and unit clerks and students from nurses.

When I graduate the temptation to wear cute scrubs will be there but if I'm working with adults I will at the very least wear a white top. I plan to go pediatrics though. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do if I get lucky enough to go to the ped hospital here (have kids myself and might need to stay close to home the first couple of years). I think the cute scrubs are nice to wear around kids but again I think it's important for nurses to stand out. I will probably go with a cute top but a white bottom in that case but not sure.

I just think the RNs should be different then the LPNs who should be different then aids and clerks. I think it's important for the patients.

So I'm proud of my uniform.
