Unhappy with CSCC...are there any alternatives?

U.S.A. Ohio

I submitted my application to CSCC at 9:00 am this morning. Later today, I found out that dozens of other people had the same idea. They camped out in the computer lab and all waited to hit the 'enter' key at 9:00 am. The application was supposedly for Spring '11, but only a few people will get in due to the overwhelming number of applicants from the Fall '10 crowd. I'm fairly certain that I will not start until almost a year and a half from now. I find this frustrating, considering I have the same chance of getting in as someone who has much lower grades than mine (I have a 3.9 GPA). Are there any good alternatives to Columbus State out there?

Cool, we won't have to deal with the semester changes.

I am starting in the online program. :) I can't wait to start the nursing classes. I have basically been taking biology and chemistry classes for the past year. I am currently taking the last two, patho and micro. The online patho class is compressed and it is a lot of work. His tests are hard too. I miss my physiology instructor I had last quarter, she recorded her lectures so we could listen to them on our ipods. That was such a big help.

I'll have to deal with the change for my last quarter.... or semester... or however they'll do that haha. Guess we'll see!

They will probably do it like Chamberlain does it, have two 8 week sessions. It shouldn't be too bad.

Orientation is on Friday, I am nervous about that. I heard they scare you about all the work that is ahead.

I hear it is true!! My first is in her 2nd quarter and went from a 4.0 student to a working her butt off for Bs!!! Let me know how it goes at orientation and what all they say!!

I will definitely give you all the gory details. :)

My friend started the online program last quarter and she says you have to get a 76% just to pass with a C. Her instructor recommended the book: Test Success Test-Taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students. I bought it on amazon for $5 and it is a really good book. My friend also said that her clinical site was an assisted living place and she loved it.

Yup, mine too. She said it was a lot about care plans. She said you didn't get to see the patient chart or see what was wrong with them until the end of the quarter. You had to come up with the care plan yourself. She said she didn't have to do any nurse aide type stuff (most nursing students do) because we already did NURC 101/102.

I'm super excited for orientation! I know it's going to be ridiculous, but I'm so happy to just get going. Last night I actually looked at the scheduling of classes for NURSING! Whew, finally. :)

I'm also starting a NEW JOB on Monday! My family and I are as prepared as we can be for 7 quarters of insanity! But we'll get through.

"See you Friday" - although we won't know each other, but I guess we'll dish here. :lol2: I'm traditional tract, I know several people starting that were in my NURC & Anatomy classes, etc.

I'll be there tomorrow too. Finally found childcare for the kids for tomorrow and have my checkbook and bankcard ready. I have a feeling it's going to be another expensive day.

I am excited to get one step closer to starting.

I hope it is not too expensive because I am kind of broke. :(

i just checked out Chamberlain and the tuition is the same as if i were to do it in my home state of Florida (around $7500 or so) so Chamberlain is an option for me. my only thing would be to ensure that the credits would transfer so i can get my BSN somewhere else. anyone ever been to Chamberlain or transferred from there?? i need all the help i can get. im thinking of just going home...

I know, but what can we do? I did hear that we can order the scrubs with a down payment - but I don't know that for 100% sure.

I would not ask someone currently going there or the recruiters for Chamberlain, but I would try and find someone who's actually transferred to a 4 year from there. There are Chamberlains all over the country, so you could ask in the main student forum for info as well... just my :twocents:

Chamberlain is $575 a credit hour. I'm guessing the school in FL is also private? I would avoid it. A good friend of mine just graduated from there and they had poor clinical sites - she often had to drive 2+ hours as no one in Columbus would take them. You can't pass up a high quality education like CSCC with great clinical sites, a great reputation, and cheap tuition. It will be around $3,000 a year for me and my employer will pay all of it.
