hello, everyone. i would like some advice on how to approach this situation
a lot of students are having difficulty in our assessment class. we are not learning anything. literally. the teachers(we have 2 by the way) do not teach from the book and our exams are taken from an exam bank from the book company. we took a test the other day and literally more than half of the class failed the exam. we are looking to tell the director of nursing but want to know the best way to approach the situation.
we have told the teacher that the exams do not coincide with what we are learning and she does not seem to car. ( to pass those exams you have to literally remember everything in the chapter). its not right
i have passed all of my nursing classes with w/o a problem and that is because the teachers were fair and were great at helping us to understand the content. what have been your experiences when you reported a teacher to the director of nursing?
please provide some insight and advice on how we should approach this.
**** most are failing. there are 20 students in the class and i know for sure 10 students failed the most recent test. we have asked her in the past how to study and she just says to read the book*****

Question?
How many are failing? MORE than half? Like 1 more? Or most are failing minus a few?
I would say if ~ half are failing then I would try and ask the teacher what to focus on. If more are failing than passing then if talking to the teacher didn't work I would talk to the dean.

If your instructor is using a test bank, I'd sure focus on studying the book for exams. At least you know where the material is coming from.
I don't know how your school works, but where I went, going to the Dean probably wouldn't have made much difference except that from that point on, there might have been a little more observation of the "complainers".... If the tests are based on required reading and the instructor has told you this, the Dean will probably just tell you to do the reading.
I do feel for you. I don't think test bank questions are the way to go in nursing school. All of our tests were patterned after the NCLEX and based on critical thinking which is infinitely more useful, I think. I hope this gets resolved for you, NS is definitely a bumpy ride.
