UNF Summer 2011 Accelerated BSN Hopeful

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello. I am hoping to get into UNF for the summer of 2011. I have taken the TEAS and am taking all of the pre-req courses. I am curious what other people got on their TEAS V and what their Pre-Req GPA is that are also trying to get into the accelerated program this summer. Also, any ideas on what the group interview will be like and what questions will be asked?

I didn't get in either. :crying2: I think it might be my low teas score.

SarahBanana, you can email me @ [email protected] if you want to get ready for fall term together. :)

Thanks for comisserating with me, Sue. :o What group were you in? I was in group 3.

At first when i read the letter, I was like, aww, oh well. But later that night I started getting really mad thinking about how STUPID their interview was.

I emailed Beth and flat out asked her why didn't get in and she gave me this answer about how I had a 4.0 GPA, my TEAS was 10pts lower than the ave (for the applicant pool), and my interview was not "strong." And I'm thinking YEAH, cause your interview SUCKED!! Instead of asking me if my integrity has ever been challenged, why not ask me what my goals are for my nursing career?! Hmm, eh?! Seriously, people...If you're only going to ask 5 questions, make them good ones that MATTER. Yes I am venting!! Sorry! Just have to, cause they are ridiculous. I have a friend who's fiance applied to their engineering program, and they told him he was "too old to go back to school." He now has a PhD in enigneering. Good job UNF!! who tells someone that they're too old to go back to college?!!!!!!

anyways...I am hoping to get into JU- still waiting for that letter.

Oh well, Beth told me the same thing. My teas score was lower than ave, and my interview wasn't strong enough even though I had 4.0 GPA. Ahhh I keep thinking that it might not be a good school for me. I heard a lot more good things about JU nursing program than UNF.. but it's too expensive. Good luck to you and don't ever give up.

I think they asked the integrity question because their course work really focuses on ethics. Granted, you may have not felt that those questions mattered, but the important thing to remember is THEY felt that they were important questions. Anyway, water under the bridge, right? I hear JU is pretty good and they will accept most people aslong as you can donate an organ to pay for tuition. :) I knew a guy that i used to work with that was a pompous slacker and he got accepted to JU after being denied at UNF...if he can do it, anyone can. Don't fret, you'll get it. Good luck.

Gee thanks; if a big slacker can do it, then anyone can get in. That's really nice. I'm not fretting...my whole point was that I gave a damn good answer to that question, and the other ones as well, yet my interview was apparently not strong. I just think that email she sent back was perfunctory and copied & pasted w/ my name on the top. They are a public school, so they do things the public school way. And if you've got a brain in your head, you know what that means. ;-)

For those of you who didn't get into UNF due to "weak" interviews - I feel your pain. I purposely did not apply to UNF because of the emphasis that was placed on the interview. As someone who has no problem speaking their mind in normal working situations but who does not do well when asked interview type questions, I knew I would have no chance to get into their program. After reading your posts, I pondered how I would answer the integrity question and drew a complete blank. In my former career as a computer programmer, it simply didn't come up. Other than perhaps witnessing people occasionally take a longer lunch break or a bit of office politics, I would have had nothing to say. If I had more time to think about it, such as in a written response, I would have said that integrity is not something that just comes into play in critical moments but is an integral part of your character, like honesty, that is exemplified by how you lead your life every day.

I don't know what that means...seriously.

But the interview questions were posted allnureses.com, and I knew it would be on the question and even practiced.. but didn't get in. I am sure each one of us thinks our anwers were good!! It was their decision to pick their students, so I don't have any complaints.

They were posted on here? Wow, lucky you for looking and finding. I would have thought that they would change them up each go-around.

Hello. This is the first time I have posted anything, but I have been reading all your posts since the interview process has started, and I have found them very helpful. I am sorry to hear that some of you did not get into UNF. Like many of you I did not have a backup plan, other than to reapply in the Fall. I want a BSN and I am not willing to go into serious debt to attain one, and I have a have a family, so I could not relocate. I did get into the traditional program. I have a 4.0 prereq GPA, but I am still working on 3 prereqs this semester. I did slightly better than average on the TEAS, but not spectacular since I was only one month into any of my science classes at the time I took the test and I need a calculator for math. I thought my interview was awful and until I got my letter I was stressing over everything I said and what I should have said instead. My friend I carpooled with was actually in the same interview group with me, we were a little concerned at first because we practiced together a bit. We were able to give each other feedback after the interview which was nice. She said I was a bit chatty. I can totally believe that. I felt chatty, but couldn't stop myself. My friend also got in. I thought she did great. I did have a story about integrity. When I was newly promoted at work I had to turn in a supervisor for stealing and other things. My friend did not have a story. She said she has never encountered this problem because people generally know her principles up front and don't act that way around her. Some people in our group felt a little scripted. I am not sure if they got in, but I would think the interviewers would want you to be yourself, honest and ingaged in the conversation. I responded to a couple things other candidates said. Also one lady had to be reminded it was her turn to talk, twice! The rest of us had gone so we were all looking her way and she said "oh I guess it's my turn to talk." The other time she thought she answered but her answer wasn't what they were asking, so after everyone was done one of the interviewers asked if she would like to answer the question, yikes. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to meeting some of you in May.

So did you friend get accepted to the program as well? That would be cool.

I was denied by UNF. I left the interview believing I had done an incredible job. This is my first post on this thread because I was applying for RPL BSN. I am 47 years old, GPA=3.84 and TEAS=352, so once you interview the GPA=25%, the TEAS=25%, and the interview 50%....so I asssume they thought I bombed the answers. I say my age because several people have asked me if I felt I was experiencing agism. Who knows? I only applied to UNF, which was not smart. I will be applying again for Fall 2011 at UNF, JU, UF, and FSJC. No matter what it takes I will become a nurse and have decided it is their LOSS!!!!!! It is a little disturbing that three women can subjectively hold your future in their hands.

Non the less, good luck to all, and never give up!

I read somewhere that the TEAS scores was more like 35%, GPA 14%, and being a prior UNF student 1%. I believe that was posted by someone who attended the information session. Of course, you did well on your TEAS (about like mine, 360) and GPA, so it's not like that made a difference. As for the three women subjectively holding your future in their hands, i felt the same way. I wasn't to pleased with that aspect of the admission process, but i did what i had to do. Personally i only met one person out of the entire group of people in my time slot that didn't really seem to be nursing material. This guy was somewhat under dressed, didn't follow instructions well, forgot his group number, was told to wait in the lobby and instead went back to the skills lab (all the SON students and staff were giving him the funny eye), and when his group was called back he sat around and BS'ed with the other applicants until someone had to tell him that he was left behind. Kinda felt bad for the guy.
