I start clinicals for a cna class Saturday and I just realized that white scrubs are very...see through.
I'm very new to all of this so I don't know what I can wear underneath the pants and top...I've heard youre not supposed to wear long sleeved shirts because they catch germs and whatnot.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Long sleeves shirts are required in our program if you have visable tatoos.
Beige, not white, underwear, can be hidden better.
Cheap scrubs also will show through. I have seen some where you can even see my freckles through the fabric.
A good quality white scrub will even hide black underwear (no, I did NOT wear black underwear to clinicals...only when I was trying them on :wink2:).
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT WEAR A THONG!!!!!!!!
I worked for many years wearing all white (with a cap to boot - and I am talking months ago, not stone age with Florence). To put it politely, wear granny panties that have the elastic below your cheeks, and make it a neutral color of your skin (i.e. fair skin wear nude panties, dark skin wear dark tan panties). Don't let your husband tease you about the grannies, reserve the thongs for a more appropriate time! And, make sure your bra matches your underwear, as in whites, it is a faux pas to wear any other color than mentioned above. :redpinkhe
I'm so glad my school wears green. Panty checks??? What do you all line up against a wall and pop out you butt?More importantly, I would have to get a total hysterectomy if I went to your school.
No, you don't pop out your butt!
It's more that if the instructor can see your underwear when you go past or bend over in front of him/her, home you go.
We were also limited to ONE small earring in each ear for jewelery, tatoos had to be completely covered.
I actually e-mailed my instructor and asked before clinicals started in our program, since outside of the hospital I'm a black thong type of gal. Our syllabus states that underwear must be worn, and that it must be white, but I wanted to know if nude-colored would be OK. It was, and I wear some boy cut type ones that I get at Target. I didn't own any white underwear before NS. Underwear checks sound more than a little demeaning, I'm not sure if I could tolerate that. Our instructor for didactic did tell us that she has sent students home before for wearing obviously inappropriate underwear, but I was told the only time it's a problem is if you wear something that shows through.
I had to chuckle a little...
Last week I helped transport a patient during my preceptorship. The nurse I was helping was a young, hot to trot lady-- so pretty.
She bent over to put the O2 under the bed and there were the purple thongs that crept up over her bottoms. I hurried up and tried not to notice and then I noticed the patient's son! He was loving it!
Now I understand where the undie rule comes in.

Where white or nude panties. Do not wear a thong. Honestly I would go white. I would rather somebody KNOW I have panties on then think I don't...if they are that see through.
There are people in my program that wear long sleeve shirts under their uniform top. It's not a problem. The just roll up the sleeves for certain things.
I know many RNs that do the same.

I am just curious how the type of undergarments worn can be called unprofessional? I don't understand how schools can even have the right to check undergarments. I wear a nude colored thong from victoria secrets with my white scrubs because that is what I am comfortable in. My school doesn't check and my shirt falls low enough on my backside that you couldn't even tell if I were wearing colored panties.
