I start clinicals for a cna class Saturday and I just realized that white scrubs are very...see through.
I'm very new to all of this so I don't know what I can wear underneath the pants and top...I've heard youre not supposed to wear long sleeved shirts because they catch germs and whatnot.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Wow, that's just ridiculous. Why they don't provide some quality scrubs instead of checking people's underwear.
We have to buy our own and it wouldn't be an issue if there wasn't someone at some point with tight pants with scanty panties showing through, or someone with tons of eye make-up on, or someone with cleavage showing on the psych rotation, or someone with multiple huge hoop earrings, or someone who attempted to tuck their scrub top in their scrub pants etc. I agree its ridiculous but its even more ridiculous that these things have actually happened.
Even when I was younger and concerned with being cute I wouldn't have thought nursing school clinicals would be the place to dress like I was hitting happy hour at the singles bar.
I wear flesh colored panties. They are really easy to find. I got mine on sale at Victoria's Secret. When I wear white shirts I also wear a flesh colored bra and it doesn't show. It's funny, you'd think anything other than white would come blazing through white clothes but actually flesh colored undergarments are more "invisible" than white undergarments. I am very fair and the flesh colored undergarments work fine for me even though they are much darker than my skin tone. Btw I would NEVER EVER wear a thong with my scrubs especially my white scrubs. It's unprofessional imo and I would be mortified if someone commented on my thong, I am pretty modest though.
Moreover I do not wear camisoles under my scrubs b/c they are still too low cut and when I bend over ppl get a nice cleavage shot (I have a large chest). I prefer t-shirts that are light weight. I get mine from Aeropostale b/c they are pretty thin. I could not wear them alone w/o wearing a cami underneath them so they are perfect for under my scrubs they keep me from flashing ppl when I bend over but don't make me overheat. As for the make-up I think most women don't over do it but I did see one nurse that had a crazy amt on and it just made my jaw drop she looked like a clown. I think cases like that are rare though. Maybe I will start a thread about that?! Kind of interesting now that I think about it....
What's wrong with tucking a scrub top into scrub pants? I don't, but can't see why it would be a problem...
I'm not sure what their rationale was but my opinion, and just my opinion, is that it looks tacky. To me, since I'm not cruising happy hour, our work uniforms are not the time to highlight our waist or butt or whatever it is they are going for. jmo. FWIW I've never seen it done by someone with loose fitting scrubs either, its always the skin tight ones which is another pet peeve of mine. But then again I wear my hair up and very little make-up so the gals that are all fancied up like its prom night just aren't my cup of tea.
There is so much bending and crouching in hands-on nursing, I would hesitate to wear a thong. Typically, scrub tops come down at least to "mid-buns", so that helps. Many of us wear little lacy boyshorts. People know you have underwear on, HOPEFULLY, so at least it can be pretty. I've also heard of women wearing mens "tighty whities", but I don't think that sounds very comfortable. And, there are definitely better quality scrubs out there that are thicker and don't show quite as much. Hope something in all that rambling helps! After nursing school, you probably won't wear white pants ever again! Good luck panty hunting!

Tacky? Hmm... it wasn't all that long ago that it was considered "professional" to tuck your shirt in. In fact, my husband refuses to go out without tucking his shirt in because he thinks it looks sloppy.
