UNC Chapel Hill 2015 MSN adult/gerontology nurse practitioner program

Published

Did anyone out there apply to this program? Just wanted to start correspondence to get through the wait.

I applied for the FNP program for 2015 at UNC.

Hey,

I applied to UNC's MSN program for Fall 2015 but the PNP specialty. I know you asked about adult, but this is the only UNC MSN for 2015 post i've seen so far and I want correspondence to get through the wait too. :)

Did you apply anywhere else? Are you from NC?

Like the others, I applied to UNC-CH, just not that particular program. I'm hoping to gain admission to the PMHNP program. Did you guys notice that the school's website now indicates that admission decisions will be delayed due to the "large volume" of MSN applications received? Sigh. That message didn't exactly lift my spirits.

Good luck to us all!

This is very depressing! MAY!?! Did you guys apply anywhere else? This is the only program I applied to this year. Planning to apply to several more next year if I don't get in. I am a new grad nurse with previous bachelor degrees in unrelated fields. I meet the minimum requirements for experience. I'm nervous but hopeful. What about all of you?

I only applied to UNC as well. I Have 15 years of experience, mostly in NICU. I'm beginning to regret my decision on choosing FNP.

May I ask why are you starting to regret choosing FNP? Because its number of applicants?

I went back and forth between FNP and PNP. I think my experience probably would fit better for PNP but I wanted to do FNP so I wasn't so specialized in the end. I have done NICU and Peds pretty much my whole RN career but recently started working in Public Health with families.....So I am just worried that maybe I didn't have enough experience with families.

I think if you have a stronger urge to be a FNP than PNP, then you've made the right decision. Your decision should be determined by what you really want to do for the rest of your nursing career, not what you have done. You will be much more happier this way, and your future experience will be more positive too. If you explained why you wanted to be a FNP in your personal statement, then the admissions committee should understand. There is no clear set of rules to what constitutes FNP family experience. Although they say that your previous nursing experience should be related to FNP in the application guidelines, children are part of a family, and that is related. Compared to other applicants, you are just better at taking care of children. They will understand that, and I don't think it will necessarily work against you. Plus you have so many years of nursing experience on your belt. It's a HUGE advantage when they are comparing you with others who are still new nurses. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in!
