Hey guy's. I wanted to go ahead and create a thread for everyone applying for the Absn program in 2016 at chapel hill. Please share your thoughts, concerns or anything you may want to talk about.
Thank you both so much! I wanted to somehow tie into my whole big picture of wanting to be a nurse, how my fathers death from cancer last year basically is what gave me that final push to get it done. Stategrl I am finishing BIO 169 this fall and submitting everything after my grade is submitting on the 16th of December. So all of my classes are done there after. The only thing I am worried about is my C that I got in statistics. And I also saw that I have a C+ in my Global issues class from my undergrad. I have however gotten an A in Psychology, Microbiology, A&P 1 and am carrying an A in A&P2 so I am hoping that acing all of those sciences will help!
My first degree is in English, so the essays were something I was looking forward to! I am a mother of 4, a karate instructor and marathon runner. I wanted my life experiences to come through and for the committee to sense my determination and attitude through my writing.
I have no medical volunteer experience and I have only been working part time for the past 12 years. But I wanted to show that, despite not being a medical volunteer, I have a dedication to the growth of my community through service: I started a mothers group, teach religious ed, coach for the North Carolina science Olympiad and hold numerous PTA positions.
Wow that's awesome! I love your drive and passion! That's what I want to convey in my essays. I have 2 small children myself and I want nothing more than to make them and my husband proud! Hopefully I can sit down and get these started...I have tried several times to start writing and I have way too many ideas running through my head haha. Wish me luck!

Hi MrsBarron07,
I agree with what stategrl said. Make sure to answer the question well and tie any examples/experiences/stories into how they have led you to this point and how they will help you be a quality member of a health care team.
I graduated from Wake Forest University with a BS in Health & Exercise Science (and minors in Biology & Studio Art) with ~3.0. I went on to do a MA in Bioethics at Wake Forest University (GPA ~3.8) while working in knee osteoarthritis and running research at Wake Forest. I did a lot of volunteer internship work in dermatology, leadership campus health clubs (SHAC, Red Cross Club, Allied Student Health Association, Young Adult Cancer Awareness Society), research internships in geriatric oncology and breast cancer rehabilitation in undergrad. When in grad school, I did an internship for my master's thesis creating a community outreach program in advance care planning/end-of-life treatment planning for a hospice (along with 2 other large health systems in NC).
I got married this summer and had NO time to work on my application. I wrote my essays in about 2 days, but I had a friend (who was a journalism major in college) read all of my essays and critique/edit/destroy them for me and I re-wrote/edited parts. Just make sure to cover everything you want to but be concise - easier said than done sometimes!
