I found a school that seems potentially good, but then I found out its unaccredited. Its Concorde Career College in arlington. Isn't it a huge downfall to attend an unaccredited college?

I personally wouldn't take the chance.
Can you take the NCLEX after graduating from an unaccredited school? Will anyone hire you? Are they trying to get accredited, or were they denied accreditation?
Sooooo many questions. lol

I wouldnt do this either - I visited their web site. Chances are when you got ready to go for your RN none of the credits would transfer and youd have to start from scratch or test out.
Focus your energy on getting into the RN program at an accredited school. Don't waste your time with an LVN program if RN is waht you want. If LVN is what you want then go for it, but I;d be looking for an accredited college. These places usually cost twice as much too.
According to this:

You would be eligible for state licensure. As I said - transferring credits for an RN later would be problematic at best, impossible at worst.
And the cost - of course you can probably get financial aid but its UGLY at these kinds of places.

Yep, you can't get FAFSA loans or grants at an unaccredited school.

I've also checked in to Concorde in Arlington... they do offer a LVN program, but it's over $15,000! For me, I chose to get my RN at a much cheaper price, plus the classes at Concorde will not transfer to a community college or university. They supposedly prepare you to take the state exam, but I don't know anyone that has went to that school.
Thanks for the input. Certainly doesn't sound like the way to go,...I am wanting to move to dallas, but nursing programs are WAYYY competitive and my GPA isn't 4.0. This is why I was looking for school around Dallas. If anyone knows of a school that isn't really competitive drop me a note!
Gauge- i do plan on getting my RN-It would be my first choice actually! I am doing LPN first b/c I have type 1 diabetes, and will be loosing my health insurance before long. I need a back up plan to provide myself with insurance to pay this 600+ a month expense, I think getting my LPN is the best option as far as money goes.
You might try:
Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls - In an outlying area so not as many applicants. State university tuition and costs. You would probably have to move to WF to attend there unless you live pretty far north of the metroplex.
Texas Christian University in Fort Worth - expensive so not as many apps but they do have a LOT of financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants to make up for it such as the Texas tuition equlaization grant.
Southwestern Adventist University in Keene - outlying area - 2 and 4 year programs, expensive but also gets TTEG and other financial aid programs.
And Baylor in Dallas - probably(don't really know about this one) a smaller app pool because it too is an expensive private university. However - if you work at Baylor, I hear you get a big break on the cost, and priority for admission.
All four schools are excellent
Oh - and I know at SWAU you can take the LPN exam after your first year of the RN program.
Also at SWAU - I took out a loan from the school to cover the semester at the beginning of each semester, I kept mt FT job at a hospital in Ft Worth and worked to pay it off over each semester as I went. This allowed me to keep my insurance. When I graduated, I already had a job, and I had accrued no debt.

Is it a new program? Is it seeking accreditation?
I ask this because I started taking my pre-req's at my college while it was unnacredited. It was at candidacy status and seeking accreditation at the time. It did not gurantee accreditation, but I took the risk and thankfully it graduated it's first nursing class with 100 pass rate. It is now accredited.
If they are not doing anything to become accredited then look elsewhere.
This place has been around awhile, but it is doubtful they are seeking accreditation. It is more like a tech school.
The look elsewhere, it is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck
