Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
littlemango I am also a Shady Grove admit!
muldrowtl, I chose Shady Grove for the smaller, more intimate class sizes. Coming from UMD College Park, I realized finding recommendation letters and getting to know your professors on top of attending class and office hours was quite challenging. Shady Grove offers a more intimate class size which allows me to network and learn more efficiently.
Hey @KayBee09I'm a military brat so I frequent Fort Meade. I live in Laurel which is just outside of fort meade and it takes me 30 mins to get to baltimore and 30 to get to shady grove. However...as stated 95 can really suck in the morning.
In terms of transportation I'm pretty sure you can take the MARC train to baltimore. I'm not sure how far the stop is from the actual school..but that may help with traffic and saving on parking!
Everyone at fort meade is really nice. I would also check the VARIOUS facebook pages. They have one called "Fort Meade Area information" where you can ask about transportation and possibly find carpooling.
Welcome to MD...get some crabs lol(:
Hi @kirstens,
My family and I will be stationed at Ft. Meade come Aug 2015 so I'll be applying for the Spring 2016 semester. I really wanted to apply to the Shady Grove campus but thought it was too far. Living in Laurel seems to give me more options. So how is the area there?
I know I've been asking alot of questions and I haven't even applied yet. I've been stalking all the UMSON threads to prepare myself for the application process. Everyone has been such a big help.
