UMSON Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm starting this thread in hopes of meeting other hopefuls for the Fall 2018 BSN program at University of Maryland School of Nursing. I've submitted my application, just waiting on my Official Transcript from Towson before I submit the supplemental papers for my application. I've also applied to Towson University. Feel free to share your stats as we all ride out the wait together. Good luck to everyone!

@Abluef1-Although it depends on how long you have to reply to Towson I would wait until you hear back from UMSON too, also do a bit of a research on both compare the distance, the tuition and other factors that interest you but I think they are both good schools however I would say if you get accepted into UMSOn go with umson if they don't take you then keep your Towson.

Thanks, I have until April 9th to submit my Letter of Intent to Towson. So I'm going to go ahead and do that and hope for UMD too. The drive is what's really making me consider Towson over UMD, since I have no choice but to be a commuter. I just think of UMSON being a more reputable school and my ultimate plan is to be a CRNA, so I think UMSON may be a better option. So many factors like you said!

Has anyone called to asked when we'll be receiving our acceptances because looking at past forums it's seems like it's all over the place during April and May.

I called today and they said they will release decisions sometime in April :) so nervous!

Is it me or did anyone noticed that they changed the essay question for the application? Was the essay question on florence nightingale always there because when I submitted my application early in january it wasn't there.

No it wasn't there. It's for ppl applying after the fall 2018 semester

Hey guys, I am so happy to find this page, it gives a small sense of relief. I called the admission office several times and they told me that the decision will be someday at the beginning of April. Goodluck to all of you guys.

Hi, I am a fall hopeful and have been following this thread for a while now. I was a little embarrassed to post my stats because they are of no comparison to what I have seen so far, but all of my grades are from 2009-2013. My stats are not competitive with the rest, but I do have a ton of experience as a tech and currently work in the Peds ED at UMMC. I got a call in February but have been so terrified I wont get in because of my stats..... I also am a medic in the Army Guard, have ACLS, PALS, CPR certified and had phlebotomy certification. I did phlebotomy for 2 years at Johns Hopkins inpatient and have been a tech (Sinai ER-7, Carroll and UMMC PED) and Army medic for 4, so I have a pretty well rounded Resume. I have everything possible to be a nurse without the label and am sooo scared I wont get in because of an old Science GPA... (CLEARLY I am a worrywart) I had B in A&P 1, B in A&P 2 and Micro which I took together but a C in chemistry... however I failed the first time ( my ENTIRE class failed, but I got an A in lab??) I took the TEAS (for the second time, first time was in 2011 and got 72%) and got a 78% this time with no school..... I am anxiously awaiting to hear from UMSON and soooo terrified this C and retake is going to hurt me. I saw a paramedic of 6 years get rejected I believe on another forum as well as someone with experience too, so this is totally messing with me. I wasn't going to post here until I figured out if I got in, but MAN I AM SCARED!!

My aunt is a nurse in Houston, TX and she found out after she got into nursing school that one of the big reasons she was selected was because of her work experience. She didn't even have applicable work experience because she was an accountant, but apparently admissions committees really like work experience because they want to be sure that they're putting good reliable people into the field.

But I know what it's like to be super nervous! If I don't get in this round I'm going to apply to the Montgomery College dual nursing program because they're apparently pretty easy to get into if you've completed your prerequisites and they have a path where you're guaranteed to be able to transfer to UMSON for your final nursing year. It's a great backup because even if it isn't totally ideal, you still end up with a BSN in a county that is desperate for nurses. You should look into it!

Good luck!

Anyone checking surfs like every hour knowing that it's not gonna be up for at least another week? lol. It's an addiction. I'm glad I have this thread to keep me grounded haha.

Here are my stats:

Applied to Baltimore campus

Science GPA: 4.0

Overall GPA: 3.905

TEAS exam: 84.7%

TEAS National Percentile: 94

A&P1 and A&P2 Professor recommendations

EMT-B experience

Prior military (USMC)

Pre-reqs left: micro, nutrition, and stat.

I'm a little worried about my low-ish TEAS score, but hopefully my experiences and GPA will make up for it! I'm super nervous!!

Hope this can ease some minds. I applied for spring 2018, was accepted and deferred to fall 2018 since we are a military family and are moving to Maryland April 1st. We actually leave this Saturday. Anyway, here are my stats:

Science GPA: 4.0

Overall GPA: 3.9

TEAS: 80%

Prior experience as a medical assistant for 4 yrs

I'm excited to start and maybe meet some fellow classmates.

Hey! I also applied for fall 2018 in Baltimore! Really hoping to hear back soon since I have to accept or deny my GW acceptance by April 15th...Cutting it close here!
