Who is applying?
My application is complete too. It will be hard to wait 2 months now to hear back!b33ni, do you know anything about the new curriculum? I saw the sample plan of classes but I'm wondering how different it is from the current curriculum.
Thanks!
Sorry for getting back to you so late! Well... I can't speak for the new curriculum, because I honestly don't know whether they lightened the load for the bigger courses. If they haven't, your 2nd semester is sure looking crazy.. VERY crazy.
All I have to say is that when my class saw the new curriculum posted on the website, all of us let out gasps and said that the school was insane to cram pathopharmacology, medical surgical nursing (previously called Adult Health), and psych all in the second semester. For us, we had pathopharmacology in the first semester along with Fundamentals, assessment, and research. But for the new curriculum, they've placed pathopharm and moved psych into the 2nd semester, which I have to say is an ungodly amount of work if they haven't changed the actual course content.
This is why:
A) you have two clinical days for med-surg and one clinical day for psych. that's already 3 days out of your week.
B) pathopharmacology was the hardest class for us in the first semester because it is VERY content heavy. you need to be very good at memorization for this class.
C) medical-surgical (or previously called Adult Health) is the hardest class in the entire program, and I'm pretty confident that all my classmates will agree. It's not necessarily difficult content, but it's VERY content heavy. And it's actually starting to think like a nurse and answering NCLEX like questions that's difficult... I know that some nursing schools split medical-surgical nursing into two courses, but for UMSON, it's all in ONE course which is why it's so intense.
D) psych is not very difficult, but you need to invest a significant amount of time doing work for the class.
The combination of those 4 reasons is why all of us "pitied" the incoming classes. But at the same time, I'm sure UMSON did SOMETHING to make sure the new curriculum is doable. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions!
i just got waitlisted, is it just me or are 50 % of us here on wait list. how can they put sooo many people on a wait list ?is this being fair to us (those waiting) or are they just trying to make sure their classes get filled up if those accepted decide not to attend umson or do they rilly believe those on the wait list have a chance of getting in?
Lol. Not sure how to feel about the warning about the new curriculum, but we might as well be prepared for the worst and be pleasantly surprised when it isn't as bad as we were told. At least that's what I'm thinking. I was hoping to get one of the tough ones done in the first semester. I would guess this means a five day school week that semester.
To the rest of my waitlisted buddies, remember to return the request to remain on the waiting list! (You'll be getting something in the mail soon.) You have to tell UMSON if you'd like to remain on the waiting list, or if you want to move on. It's not automatic.
Have you received your letter from UMSON yet? I haven't gotten mine yet.

Someone (maybe grey lady) earlier in this thread mentioned that there is no wait list limit, but instead every single applicant who is qualified but that there wasn't space for is placed on the wait list.

Call me cynical (and I'm speaking out of my frustration with everything) but I think that's total CRAP!! There are sooo many people on this forum who have been waitlisted and Lord knows the scores of others not on allnurses who have been waitlisted too. I'm not sure I truly see the point in an unstructured waitlist like they have at UMD. I mean at least if there was a numerical list then I could gauge if I want to bother to stay on the list. But no, I get to play the waiting game from this very second until September 1st! This becomes not only unfair but critical, because financial aid packages may be messed up (or possibly not given), scholarships can't be applied for, university housing can't be applied for, etc. It seems as if they have stripped us the right to make an informed decision about our education and in my opinion, this isn't fair! Towson says I'm missing 2 courses, both of which no one else is requiring. So what happens when I'm in the middle of summer semester and have already dropped $800 for 2 course plus the $200 deposit for Towson, just to get a phone call from UMD congratulating me on my acceptance??
...sorry I just needed to get that out.

I feel the same way about the wait list. So much uncertainty. I just wish they would let us know in June atleast so we can plan for the semester. No one wants to jump and head to Bmore without knowing where they will be live or how they will be paying for classes. Also there's no need for false hope when 200 people are on the wait list and only 20-30 get accepted. Atleast you have an admission waiting for you. I've none and I don't have anymore classes to take. Ugh!!!! This whole process is frustrating and overwhelming.
